Around SBN: Lakers Should Trade Andrew Bynum So He Doesn't Go To Waste

All I can say is "wow". How much is Kesler worth if Stajan is a 3.5 million dollar player?

I would be absolutely livid if I was Flames fan right now.

Good job Jevant.

First thing through my mind: oh shit. How are we going to afford Kesler this summer?

If Stajan goes for 3.5 per, it’s possible you’d need to go at least up to 4.5 for Kesler, maybe even 5. Even MayRay would cost close to 3-3.5? Ouch… Thanks for nothing, Calgary.

Basically...

…the way I see it now, we’re probably just transferring Demitra’s cash and adding it to Kesler, minus 500K or so (if we’re lucky). Gotta think Kes is worth 5-5.25 at least (and I realize this has been discussed ad nauseum in another thread).

MayRay…I dunno. But yeah, I’d prefer him to Stajan, which is a bit concerning…

Knights, Canucks, Dolphins, Jays and Raptors all the way.

Crap

Are we going to be able to hold on to both Kesler and Raymond?

Yeah, this Stajan signing is definitely gonna inflate the benchmark salary this year. He’s a good player though, I would’ve put his ceiling at $3.0M so Calgary didn’t make that bad a deal.

I recall reading a Toronto newspaper article a couple months ago saying that Stajan is going to end up with an inflated contract because he and Kessel were clicking very well at the time. They were right on this one.

Makes sense for the 3rd line C role...

…but not sure if I’d want the 2.65 cap hit for the next 2 years.

Don’t we want more of a scorer for the third line?

Personally...

…with Demitra seemingly “on” (what an Olympics for him), I think we’re probably okay scoring wise. And Sammy and Bernie can provide a bit. I think a good two-way C with a bit of size might make more sense. Not sure Pahlsson’s the guy either, but (cap hit aside) might be worth a shot.

I still prefer they wait until the offseason and go after a better player though. Cash in the Schneider chip for a similar level prospect, except of the forward or defence variety. Combine that with Hodgson/Schroeder, and you’ve got the makings of a young core behind the top guys.

Sutter

is turning into Lowe v2.0, Bourque and Stajan, both borderline top 6 forwards signed long term to big $ AND BOTH got NMCs.

Anything to keep them tied down for a long time is good in my books.
