Olympic Handshake Thread?
via www.youthink.com
So, here I go, I proudly proclaimed my affinity to the United States, watched the entire game at a bar where half their TV's stopped working from the 5 minute mark of the third period to the end of the handshake line, and drank so much beer a brewery is considering changing the name of their Scotch Ale to "GoodKeith lager."
And Sidney Crosby killed every one of my good feelings with a five-hole strike on Ryan Miller. Dang.
So here's the unofficial USA-Canada handshake thread -- I know I'm not the only USA supporter out here, feeling a bit lost. The most important thing about all this is now that my bout of patriotism has ended, my loyalties to the Canucks remain 100% intact. I get to watch six players who made the Olympic tournament their own personal highlight reel (Hank, Dank, Salo, Pavol, Kesler and Luongo) play on the same team. I look forward to seeing Luongo's confidence swell now that he's won the big one.
But, today, I start the healing process with the handshakes. Great seeing everyone's spirit and excitement for these Olympics on a daily (and sometimes hourly) basis. Looks like Canada did, indeed, own the podium these Olympics. After a rough start, couldn't have happened any other way.
Also I'm still laughing at Zandberg putting up a picture of Hacksaw Jim Duggan last week when the USA-Canada prelim game occurred. Well done.

Glad you enjoyed that. My hand is extended to you and any American hockey fan out there. What a game. Team USA was so good and so close. The look on Ryan Miller’s face was gut-wrenching.
Hey! You forgot Ehrhoff.
I always leave somebody out
Sorry Ehrhoff, make it up to you someday. Now get out there and make me remember you.

You in the Pacific TZ, GK? Damn you’re up early. Anyway, the 2 best teams made the final, IMO. Well done, America. Now, if only the interest in hockey could stay close to this level.
Please allow me to adjust my pants, so that I may dance the good time dance, and lead the onlookers and innocent bystanders into a trance.
This is why the NHL should stay in the Olympics
Forget injuries, competitive balance and time off… Tournaments like this bring out the passion in the game. Sometimes it doesn’t work out well (read Ovechkin, Alex) but most times, when dudes play for their country in a single-elimination setting, they deliver. When the best players in the world go head to head with that passion, well, you get epic results like yesterday’s game.

Location
I live in the small hamlet of Bellingham, Washington. I need to get accreditation to cross the border so I can help boost the Canadian economy one of these weekends… we’ll see about that.

Yeah, I know Bellingham. My family has had property in Birch Bay( just south of Blaine) for years. Now I remember you’ve mentioned Bellingham before.

Aah, Birch Bay… slow speed limits, walking distance to the beach, and clam digging… great times, unless it’s dark out.

That be the place. My uncle used to take us crabbing out by the fairground and fishing for bullheads off the Blaine dock. The roller rink was my second home. I don’t get down there much anymore, but my Dad’s always down there.

I grew up in Aldergrove. We used to go to Belligham for the shopping. Bellis Fair bitches.

Whenever we cross the border, we go to the outlets now.
Bellis fair’s only visited for Ross Dress for Less.

I don’t think I’ve been there since the 80s. Target was the shit back then.

I think I’ve been to Bellis Fair maybe a handful of times. My childhood was long before that place got built. We used to go right into downtown Bellingham. Place always had a weird smell.

Downtown still smells bad, so that hasn’t changed. The reason why it smells might be a bit different, though.

I remember my grandma? telling me it was sulphur. Does that make any sense?

Yeah, there used to be a Georgia-Pacific plant here
But it closed right around the time I settled myself down in the area (1998, I think). People still take “tours” of the Georgia-Pacific plant, but it’s more on the side of trespassing than tourism.

Ross DFL moved!
It’s now across the street from the mall… in Meridian Square, “where businesses go to die.”
Actually, Ross is a pretty solid businesses, other tenants have not been so fortunate. Driving around that area is quite depressing.

Serious?
I used to go to the Bellis Ross all the time, now I just go in Seattle.
Wait, Meridian Square. Is it near a Rite Aid?

Lucky you GK. I lived there from 02-05. Miss living so close to BC.
Can’t forget Boundary Bay Brewery. Good beer.
Praise be to Luongod, from whom all good things flow.

We feel the same about you GK. Seeing Lui take that next step will happen, I think.
My hand is definitely extended too. Nothing to feel bad about yesterday but the final result.
Kes’ and his team played like warriors…they did the USA proud.
The funniest thing? The press sec. of the USA bet and lost on the women’s gold medal game…and had to wear a Team Canada jersy at an “off camera” briefing.
He went double or nothing…and now it has to be an on camera one. Seeing that is going to be hilarious!

Things just keep looking better for Canada after an iffy first week of the Olympics.
