Fantasy Olympic Hockey anyone?
Now I'm guessing because it's so short websites aren't running fantasy pools for the Olympics so if people are keen we could run our own. I found some ideas of how it could be run and wouldn't mind running it myself. The easiest way is probably to score 1 point for a goal and one for an assist (could chanage to 2 for a goal, but I think 1's fair).
Then there's the choice of system (copied from Yahoo fantasy page):
1. Pick any 10 skaters
2. Take five from each of the three Olympic groups
3. Pick any 15 skaters, but you can’t take more than one from any NHL team
4. Pick one skater from each of the 12 teams in the Olympic tournament
5. Pick any 10 skaters, with their total NHL points from this season capped at 500
6. Pick 15 skaters: 10 from the NHL and five from Europe
I quite like the 5th one, while the 6th one isn't great for people like me that don't follow hockey in Europe.
I'll add a poll but if you're keen we could get this going :)

I'm down...
My buddy is running an Olympics pool soon, he’s gonna do a draft where each player can only be picked by one manager/team. No other restrictions, like 1 from each country, etc. So I guess that would be #1.
I do like the ideas of #2 and #4 as they balance out the top ranked players a bit and force people to do some research.
I voted for #1, but as a traditional draft where players can only be picked once.

Yeah, screw playing for your country, I’m all about regular season totals

Well hey, I guess html sarcasm tags don’t work.

I’ll give it a couple of days then we’ll get it going. If it’s anything other than where one player can only be picked by one team then it should be easy and can be left until a few days before the first game
This’ll be fun. You might want to consider putting a cap on the number of people allowed in, if you get too many people interested. Either that or enlist a few others to help out.

Yeah, invite other team blogs. It’ll get heated, specially if you somehow tally points by each teamblog.

Each team blog picks 5 reps for an sb pool?

I only did it here because I thought quite a few people would be interested and I like the community here. Didn’t want too many entries or else it’ll be too much work so if we invited other blogs I’d need help for sure
I'd be down
regardless. Might as well make an event out of it, since most of us will be keenly watching the games anyway.

Would it be possible to include goalies in this? Just simple scoring, like for wins, GA, and SO.
An additional idea is for a format where you pick X forwards, Y defensemen, and Z goaltenders. Because currently, everyone would most likely be picking just the same forwards.
Or is this going to be too much work?
Yeah we could force people to pick defensemen. Also could maybe limit to 1 per NHL team and also maybe a 500 point cap. That’ll mean teams will be quite different….
As for goalies, it wouldn’t fit in with the 1 point for a goal/assist so the scoring system would need to change. Just don’t want it to become too much work
Sweet
Sounds like fun, I would be down for this.
