Beantown Canuck goes to Beantown to watch Canucks
The life of a wandering Canucks fan.
Well as some of you know, despite my name being Beantown, I'm actually from Vancouver, and my name comes from the fact that I moved to Boston for school, and I was there when Nucksmisconduct started. But I no longer live there. I moved to New York in November (with a brief 4 month break where I was back in Vancouver). I lived in Boston for three years, and in that time span the Canucks only came once to play the Bruins, my first year there. Tim Thomas shut us out 2-0 I believe; it sucked. I spent two years with no Canucks visit. Thank you Gary Bettman. So during that time I would book my trips home to Vancouver, to a certain extent, around the Canucks schedule, and I would travel to visit friends/family in nearby-ish cities when the Canucks came around.
I Went to New York once to see the Canucks at Madison Square Garden. It was awesome. Skipped my afternoon class to take a 4 hour bus ride to NY, and had great seats thanks to a friend from school whose family had season tickets. Canucks had an epic win. Went drinking for about an hour after the game with some buddies, then took a midnight bus back to Boston (it was mid-week) and got home at about 5am. Went to class at 9. Fell asleep in class.
I Went to DC twice to see the Canucks play the Caps. It was awesome one of the two times, and it was the worst Canucks game I have ever seen the other (last season's game if anyone remembers - I will discuss it no further other than to say the Canucks barely squeeked into the double digits for shots on goal in the last minute of play).
But this year I'm in New York. In fact I live a five minute walk from Madison Square Garden. So of course, the Canucks have not a game in New York. I did get to go to the game in New Jersey where I very much enjoyed a crushing Canucks victory, mind you. But none in what I like to call my "backyard rink".
And of course, this year, now that I've left, the Canucks return to Boston. I just got the final clearance from work that they shouldn't need me on Saturday (it's sad that I have to do that, but that's a different story), so I'm officially going to the game! Game is at 1pm, which means two things. (1) I bet Raycroft starts, since we don't want a repeat of the Pittsburgh game last year, and (2) I gotta take an early-ass bus to Boston in the morning. Just booked it. 7:30am. Return bus leaving 6:30pm. Eight hours of travel for a Canucks game? Totally worth it. Go Canucks!

Hell yeah. I’m skipping classes to go to the Ottawa game tomorrow night. There are positives to this road trip, such as us misplaced fans getting to see them in an enemy’s building.
So don't get violent and don't get caught with your head down, the night she stole the moon.

Have a wicked time tomorrow night. I was thinking about trekking up from Toronto for the game, but can’t afford it. Too bad, should be a doozy of a game.

Nice, I love transplanted Canucks fans (being one myself). I’ve seen ‘em in San Jose, Toronto, Buffalo and Washington in addition to Vancouver. Always good times, especially meeting random Canucks fans. Some time I’m hoping to do a NYC-area trip to catch a couple games (combo of Rangers/Isles/Devils).

Amazing to read the extent some go to be that Blue and Green Army we see in visiting cities more and more.
Great stuff Beantown.
I would think the Fla. trip would be fun too. A friend here does the same thing in Phx. every year the last 3, and says its dirt cheap for the tickets.
I can’t imagine it would be a problem getting ducats in TB or Fla next week.

Yes yes but florida requires an overnight stay, which means more time and expense, and I know no one there. Plus I got work. Only so much I can do per year.

In the future, we should do a NM meet-up at one of those sunbelt cities for a road game, some golf, whatever.
It would be very difficult to coordinate everyone’s schedules, money, etc. though.

You know Bettman should do a thing where every team plays a game in Vegas once a year. All the fans from the two teams could book trips around it, and if Vegas itself won’t support a hockey team, I bet the teams fans coming in could. Thing about Vegas is its so damn cheap to get to and stay at, and they do have a good hockey arena.

I love how I’ve been to all the games you mentioned. And I’ve met cool VAN fans at each one. We certainly do get around. Like pagans, gypsys or the swine flu. :)
