Province Headline Motivates Blues

Stay connected for news and updates

From Jason Botchford: Pinned in their locker room was Sunday's Vancouver Province. The back page blared:

"Time to abuse the blues; St. Louis is struggling and the Canucks are rolling - the perfect time to lay the smack down on a conference rival."

"We were a little pissed off," Alexander Steen (who scored 2 goals and added an assist) said. "We have a reporter in Vancouver to thank for their nice title today in the paper. Let's 'abuse the Blues?' It put a fire under us."

"Whoever wrote it, I thank them. We all talked about it. Of course we used it.

"Wouldn't it fire you up?"

More on that here. Steen also had 7 shots on goal and played over 22 minutes!

The Blues played solid despite all of their adversities and the Canucks just couldn't keep up or even match St. Louis' work ethic. The newspaper motivational tactic is a non issue had

the Canucks shown more hustle to break through the stifling Blues defence.
