If you could read you would know I was talking about Burrows’ comment. Not the incident itself. I never said it wasn’t a sucker punch. It wasn’t. But I never said that until now. It was cheap and dirty and typical of a player with no respect for the game and his opponents but in my book you can’t sucker punch a guy who is facing you. Not a clean play by any means just needs to be called something other than a sucker punch.

Smid is hurt. and was placed on IR with concussion symptoms. Whether or not you view it as a “sucker punch” Avery did in fact sucker Smid into thinking he wouldn’t go with him, then jumped him. It was a douche move all the way. Smid didn’t instigate, he challenged, and anybody who has watched Smid would know the next step would be to remove the helmet and go one-on-one. Avery wasn’t interested in a fair fight so he pulled his bullshit move.
How would you guys feel about it if Avery had pulled such a stunt against one of the Canucks? I’m guessing you’d be about as happy about it as I am right now, which is to say, not very fucking happy.

i don’t think anyone here thought the move was anything BUT douchey. We all dissed Avery for the move. The argument here is burrows’ comments, which are not really worthy of being upset about.

he said ‘i don’t like him either so i’m kinda glad he got it’. A statement which was made before anyone heard anything about concussion. You would give a testicle to have Burrows on your cellar dwelling team, so, whatever…call him a douche; i’m sure he’s been called worse by better people. He scores, he ignites the team, and he’s funny.
What strikes me as odd about you guys is avery does a douchey move and you’re all mad at burrows for saying he doesn’t like shmid and is glad someone popped him. Misdirected rage.

Ladislame Shmid would probably say the same thing were the positions reversed. The difference is we’d all laugh and say ‘yup…that’s burr…gets under opponents skins, but they’d allllllll love him on their team.’ Unlike Avery (or Stortwienee) who most people really don’t want on their team.

Plus, for all of Burr’s antics…I have never once seen him jump a guy from behind, or whatever they are accusing Avery of today. ( killing babies I imagine!)
Dude may have pushed the line, as our Hawks fans ( hello Duncan..nice hair ) …but he is generally a guy that plays all out…but in the “code”.
I love how he speaks with an open mind. The NHL would be #1-2 in the States if we had more guys like Burr’.
