Update: Alain Vigneault is expected to ice the same roster that beat Ottawa, including Luongo in goal. Kristen Reid suggests Cory Schneider will start in Buffalo. Peter Schaefer is taking his healthy scratch in stride.
Big stories preceding this game:
1. The Northwest Division is bunk. The Canucks are tops on the NW, with Colorado 3 points behind them and Minnesota 4 points behind. The Flames and Oilers..well... So complacency can set in at some point. Hopefully a game against the Leafs in TO is motivation in itself, which I am sure it will be. God, I wish these 2 teams played eachother more often.
2. I thought the Canucks would play a more physical game on the road but that has not been the case. It seems night
and day to me. I don't see Andrew Alberts killing anyone, and believe me, I wish he whacked Alexei Kovalev last game. The Leafs WILL play physical, so the Canucks will have to respond.
3. How long will the expensive Keith Ballard ride the pine? Jason Botchford thinks the man should play. Me? I think the coach should go with what is working. Ballard makes $4 million? Oh well, the $$ comes out of the owners' pockets. It's all about winning. Has Aaron Rome or Alberts earned a benching in favor of Ballard? Alberts maybe, but not Rome. It's all about icing the best team. Yeah, well Ballard had not proved that he could do a better job out there than Alberts and Rome. And if we get a bit technical..maybe Christian Ehrhoff should sit. He has perhaps been the worst defenceman over the past 2 games.
Does Mario Bliznak earn another opportunity to be the 4th line center? I sure hope so. I had not seen that much jump from that line all season. To be honest, I still am not seeing the point of dressing Rick Rypien.
See the boldfaced stat for the Leafs above? Least shots allowed against per game this season. Too bad they cannot score goals. The Leafs will look to Nazem Kadri for help. In 14 games with the Marlies this season, Kadri has 5 goals and 9 assists. He may become a factor. Or a fail. Many look at the move as desperation..yeah well...NO SHIT. They've lost 7 in a row!
The Leafs had lost 5 of their previous 6 before Dion Phaneuf was injured. They have lost 4 in a row since. A grand total of 7 games lost consecutively, with 2 shootout losses in between.

You want physical but say Rome is a better choice than Ballard? You seem to contradict yourself there. Ballard plays way more physical and his hip checks are noticeable. I think the last time I noticed Rome he got destroyed by Pyatt.
He destroyed Stastny earlier this year and a Wild too I think. Rome’s been solid, I don’t mind that he plays for now.

No I’m not contradicting myself. You are seeing 2 big hip checks from Ballard in how many games played? Would Ballard be more physical than Rome? Maybe. But I’m referring to the other physical players on the team. And we have plenty of those. Rome flat-out outplayed Ballard and deserves his chance.

I wanted to be contrary and give the win to the Leafs, simply due to how it seems the Canucks enjoy playing down to the level of their competition AND like bumping other team’s slumps… but what’s the point in being a fan if you’re going to be all gloomy and doomy?

Repeat of last year where the Sedins put on a magic show. Dank hat trick, scoring from 2-3 lines. Burke blames refs for calling game too tight as he watches his team make constant trips to the penalty box. I get to go to work and grin at my fellow leaf supporting co-workers that where soooo boastful at the beginning of the year. Oh I look so forward to this game!

Love this matchup
As you may know if you’ve been reading this blog for a while, this is always a favourite game of mine. I’ve been to the last two Canucks games in Toronto that I’ve been in the city for (was living in Vancouver during the Sundin game). Sadly I am not attending this evening, but I am proudly rocking my Canucks gear around town today and will be watching and yelling just a little more passionately than I would vs. another opponent. Just wish the Leafs were better so there was more hype/intensity for these games…

My mother-in-law is a huge Leafs fan
