SOB making 700,000 more than Parent
and Parent has two years at 900,000 and then would be an RFA. SOB is a UFA after this year. This was a cost cutting measure.

Just saying we definitely didn’t upgrade… I’d love to see SOB do really well down there though… I’ve always thought if he ever grows up he’ll be a good stay at home defenceman.

We didn't really lose anything
unless someone grabs Parent off waivers. I mean SOB was going to spend the season in the AHL anyway.

I would guess cause it's
a one year deal and they can let him walk after this season. But it still doesn’t make much sense since Parent had two years for fairly cheap. It is strange.

Dumping parents salary
would make sense except that he’s cheaper than SOB. I think they just wanted SOB for some reason and waited long enough to get him without a lot of outgoing talent. Even though the deal seems on the surface kind of odd for Nashville, somehow I feel like GMMG got out waited and out negotiated there.

SOB was done with this team
in the AHL for the season then a UFA. GMMG got players back for him days after he was on waivers. Even if those players never pan out we aren’t really giving anything up to get a former first round pick. Worth a shot.

Ya I know Parent is cheap, but why give up a 23 yr old D man when you could have had O’Brien as a waiver claim? And how do we package Hordichuk into this deal?
the amount of real salary Nashville has to pay out is a big deal. Maybe they wanted SOB at $1.6 but only if they could dump another salary to keep them under their overall budget.

Watched him play in junior. Was solid there, never seemed to be able to put it together in the NHL.
Worth a shot, since SOB wasn’t coming back here, I guess.
Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose.
Haha, enjoy Parent. He was a healthy scratch in the Finals for us last year, so that should give you a bit of a gauge on his value.
Apparently he was impressive in Nashville’s camp, but basically, we were happy to get a 3rd rounder for him, which was basically the net gain after trading Hamhuis’ rights to Pittsburgh.

He’s soft as nails. He coughs up the puck whenever he’s pressured. It’s really sad.
He’s had some injury issues, and who knows if that’s contributed to his problems, but he just looks mismatched at the NHL level.

Behind the trade, but it just seems weird.
Anyways, glad to see SOB get a shot with another team, because unfortunately he was just going to be chilling in Manitoba this year. Although with the way the Moose are looking he might have had a shot at some hardware!
