Except if you grab someone off waivers you have to put them on your active roster, which is definitely not a steal.

I saw way too much of this on Twitter yesterday…why the hell would we want a guy back on the team who can’t make a rebuilding squad? Not to mention that if a small skilled center in Morrison is against the current team culture, where the hell would Grabner ever fit in?

looking for a roster spot in the forwards? I guess Hodgson, Tambellini, Schaeffer, Rypien and Desbiens are chasing the last two spots (assuming the Sedins, Sammy, Mayray, Kes, Malhotra, Torres, Glass, Hansen and Bolduc are locks).
I think Schaefer may get cut. 4th line looks like Glass/Bolduc/Desbiens. The lone remaining question is what happens with Tambo and Hodgson. If you’re a conspiracy nut, you may look at the fact Lack is still on the team as the potential Vancouver is trying to move Schneider, but that seems far our there.

well, doesn’t this mean that we shouldn’t be sending SOB off to sea yet? So maybe he hits the Moose. But we’d have to put him on re-entry waivers and hope somebody else takes him. Or, what if we run into injury issues on D and we need him?
They’ve been trying to trade him but to no avail. Are they just going to let him rot in Winterpeg and never call him back up?

On the other, they have a pair of players on the last year of their respective contracts who must now be viewed as injury insurance, providing they’re not claimed on re-entry waivers.

On Re-Entry Waivers
You get stuck with paying half their salary and its on your cap limit. I can’t see O’Brien making it through Re-Entry waivers and we are so cap tight that we can’t risk paying half the salary.
I always wonder if GMs talk amongst themselves about putting a guy on re-entry waivers. That way there is less of a gamble of having him back on your team.
On the $$$ aspect in that regard, I am pretty sure Gillis is still trying to pull off a trade. He’s probably almost giving him away at this point.
Gillis to another GM: “You can’t just have him. I need something in return.”
Other GM: “Fuck that, I’m not even giving you a late pick.”
Gillis: “A year subscription to Hustler?”
Other GM: “DONE!”
