I would like to think that Brendan Morrison likely would have earned a contract had the Canucks not already been 49 pro contracts (out of a possible 50). It’s true, he’s a versatile player and everyone loves him.
That being said he is 35, he did hit a wall at the half way point last season, and he does not provide 3rd or 4th line grit come playoff time.
He’s a real heady player and I enjoy him a lot. I’d hate to see him in a Calgary uniform because I think he’s a great fit there right now.

I think Viggy has a hard on for anything from the Crawford era…He just doesn’t want B-Mo around to take some glory away from anything he might get, cuz it would be HIS team.

Yeah, and I think Gillis would have to take some flak on this one too. But who knows? Bolduc is a good face off guy, and Hodgson or Rai can always be called up to fill in a top six center spot…

but AV is ultimately the judge of what is needed for this team and the “identity” and if he identified B-Mo as not being the guy fit for the job despite evidence dispelling that notion, and we are eliminated in anything other than the Conference Finals, then he is fucked.

John Madden is a much better faceoff guy (I’m pretty sure) and a way better penalty killer. Plus he’s more physical for his size. Not to get all technical with you, I just don’t like the comparison

Winning a Selke in 2001 doesn’t mean much in 2010. In 2001 B-Mo was a member of the top offensive line in the NHL… so he must be the awesomest now, right?
And on faceoffs-
Last year B-Mo was 51.2% on 978 draws
Madden was 53% on 1156 draws
So a moderate advantage to Madden, but not enough to call him a “much better faceoff guy” last year.
That being said, I agree Madden at this point in their respective careers, Madden is better. But it’s not as obvious as you claim.
And I agree with the decision… B-Mo didn’t make much sense on this roster.

Personally, I liked B’Mo’ as much as the next guy, but the cold ahrd cash talks. I forget where I read it, some Twitter tidbit maybe, but supposedly he was looking for a mil or more.
Bolduc brings more size and grit, while being a good PKer, and someone who, in AV’s words “has played against other teams best players at every level…”
And he is 500K.

a douche, but what about Fedotenko, see the preseason he had, and he’s only 31, big, tough, can score, was a big part of 2 Cup wins, and is still unsigned afaik…
Hodgson will be fine wherever he plays, I basically knew when they threw the bank at Malhotra that there wouldn’t be much room for him so if he goes down and dominates the A for a while so be it. I love the way he plays though, highly intelligent game that kid’s got and very responsible.

I am afraid that both sides were not completely honest here. That’s why this didn’t work out, in spite of Mo having a good tryout. The Canucks may not have told Mo that even if they sign him, they can’t pay more than $700,000 or some similar number. And Mo may not have told the Canucks that he expects at least a million, fearing that the Canucks wouldn’t have offered him a tryout, knowing his financial expectation.
I am only speculating here, but otherwise, I don’t understand why they offered him a tryout in the first place. He looked good out there, and they didn’t sign him. It must be the money.
I am like the rest of the crowd here, and withhold my judgment of AV in regards to not signing Mo, until the playoffs. But if the team fails this time, I surely hope that this is AV’s last year with the Canucks.

Well, he would be going after the wrong guy. I actually liked Sundin, and I would have defended that deal all the way. I saw his coming as a good thing. But lets face it, he was the shadow of the powerhouse that once he used to be.

So, here is what’s going to happen.
Calgary is going to sign Morrison, a one year deal, worth 1.2 million, the Flames are going to whip the Canucks a few times, Morrison will have his revenge, and next year the Canucks will beg BMo to come back for 1.5 million (under a new coach, of course).
Conversely, Bolduc will injure his shoulder half way through the season, and I will eat my pencil, in disgust.

The Flames are going to struggle to make the playoffs this year. If they are forced to sign players that don’t make our roster, I shouldn’t be too worried about them.
