Canucks recall Evan Oberg / Lukowich to Start Against Calgary
With Rome in another dimension after MySpace blew him up, Vancouver recalled young'un Evan Oberg, the leading scorer for Manitoba's defense. (G/T thelastjohnny for the heads up)
Also, CHB retweeted a Team 1040 note that Lukowich will indeed start tomorrow night.

Lukowich versus Schneider
Compare the manner with which Lukowich approached his roster fate with the manner in which Schneider did. I have always adhered to the view that if you do things right, then the right things will be done to (for) you.
Tomorrow, in the biggest game of the year thus far—for 1st place against the Phlegm—Lukowich will be in the lineup at GM Place, while Schneider will be playing in the minors.

That’s a great point. Luko earned every second of this promotion. And think if he pans out well and becomes a staple down the stretch. All of this – and the Hoff – for two prospects. Not bad at all.

I wouldn’t call them two prospects, I would call them two “prospects”. And then I would snicker.

Eh, it worked out for them. Not because of what they got directly from the Nucks, but from the Cap space that was created.

Yeah, that trade turned out to be win-win as we got 1 great defenceman (possibly 2 depending on Luko’s form) and they freed up cap space to get Heatley thus creating possibly the most destructive line in the league (side debate, is Thornton-Marleau-Heatley a hotter line than Hank-Dank-Bank?).

I would definitely say they’re hotter right now. But as far as being good in the long haul, I’d have to give my vote for Thornton-in-my-side, Bottle-of-Marleau, and Heater.

They’re certainly sexier.

Really? What’s sexier than two swedish twins and a french-canadian?
by thelastjohnny on Jan 9, 2010 10:34 AM PST up reply actions
Sexier in a hockey scoring sense of course.
Though, in general? Mila Kunis FTW.

I hope Oberg gets to see some ice at some point. I was excited about what he might be able to bring. Seems like a nice young developing D man. Him and Sauve excite me a little.

totally agree. If they pan out, they’ll be nice additions for the other young guys like Hoff and Edler.

Oberg’s not that big though is he? Kinda reminded me of Greg Hawgood. I liked Rome’s physical presence, something Luko will emulate.
by Sean Zandberg on Jan 8, 2010 4:35 PM PST up reply actions
Yeah I’m not saying Oberg instead of Luko just that I would like to see him get a shot eventually. You know see what he can do at this level when it matters. I mean with Salo, Edler, Mitchell, The Hoff, Luko SOB and company we are pretty big on the back end. I don’t think Oberg’s size would be too much of an issue with those other guys around.
by Section 312 on Jan 8, 2010 4:37 PM PST up reply actions
Probably not. It’s like Rafalski in Detroit, as a rough example.

Hey Parise isn’t big either. Granted he isn’t a D-man but stranger things have happened (like Burrows getting six goals in two games)

GO CANUCKS GO!
the fLames just went ahead and lost in regulation on home ice to the laughable blue jackets. which means Canucks are officially the division leader, since we hold the tiebreaker. Huzzah!
Nice comment by Coach Sutter after the game
Until there is a huge sense of urgency…you get inconsistency – Brent Sutter, following 3-2 loss to CBJ
Uh, falling from the division lead to 6th place wasn’t enough?

When the race is as tight as it is in the West, I wouldn’t call that a huge deal.

I think it’s significant from a mental standpoint… the memory of a 13 point divisional lead chewed up by the Canucks is still pretty fresh for them I am sure, they were 9 points up this time, but don’t have the excuse of injuries like last season

Anyone know if Salo is good to go for tomorrow? I’m assuming he would be since he was back in the game yesterday after he got stitched up.
His eye is swollen shut as of last night.
If he can see, he’ll play…otherwise its Oberg!
The earliest use of the word with the spelling we recognize today is found in "L'Acadie: or Seven Years' Exploration in British America" by James Edward Alexander, published in 1849:
We also met a lusty fellow in a forest road with a keg of whisky slung round him who called to us 'Come boys and have some grog, I'm what you call a canuck"
