what rental do you want
i've been seeing a lot of trade rumors putting the canucks in the mix for the kovalchuk sweepstakes (eg. four teams left in kovalchuk derby) and other rumors and speculation about players like david backes, thomas plekanec, ryan o'byrne and paul kariya. so my question is, who do you want as a rental player and at what price?
while the team is rolling pretty well right now, and that's with a bandaid back line and demitra at maybe 60% i think that the canucks certainly have some pieces that are superfluous to needs, exhibit a) being cory schneider. hansen doesn't seem to have a spot on a team that is full of speedy slight wingers with mediocre puck skills. i'm not sure how much the canucks value grabner for the same reason. would you keep bernier or wellwood if you could get something back for them? do the canucks need demitra for the stretch run? and then there are the longer shots in the system like yann sauve, kevin connaughton, evan oberg, anton rodin to name a few.
i'll come out and say that if the canucks can get kovalchuk i would do it, and i'd spend anything outside the current top 6 forwards, luongo (duh), erhoff and edler. kovalchuk wouldn't play with the sedins, but on a second line with kesler and raymond he would change the complexion of the team and wreak havok on opposing teams' matchups. barring that (because i think it's highly unlikely to actually happen) i would love to find a good center with size. backes would be perfect for the canucks but the blues have already shut that down and i believe davidson when he says backes won't be traded. i would veto tkachuk because even though he fits the profile he's a loser that never does anything in the playoffs. kariya is nothing the canucks don't currently have lots of and i haven't been impressed with his play when i've watched him this year.
anyway, chip in with your thoughts and wish list.

Ya if they could get plekanec or a decent third line center then they should do it. Kovalchuk is a really good player but you’d have to give up too much to get him and he’d be gone in the off season wanting way too much money. He probably wants the league maximum and there’s no way MG would sign him for more than the Sedins. I don’t think he’d really fit well here anyways.
Canes just
traded Wallin.
Wake up Gillisgan, they’re selling, take your balls out of your pocket and go get Cullen!
Everybody knows
That the world is full of stupid people
Well I got the pistols so I'll keep the Pesos
Yeah that seems fair
In a perfect world Brenden Morrow so he could beat the piss out of everyone and everything, and by that I mean Chicago’s Ben Eager, Andrew Ladd and Dustin Byfuglien.
Paul Kariya would be a nice homecoming,
I’d like to see his name on a Cup before he cashes in his chips.
From a grit persepective Jamal Mayers or that old donkey Mark Recchi.
Recchi, yes. Morrow..could you imagine?

Not from what I head over at the Copper and Blue. 1 point in his last 24 games. Doesn’t have a goal in his last 29 games….simply awful.
Well, it is just a rental. But I really think Bernier has to start taking garbage goals to heart: it’s my one big fear with the Canuckleheads in the playoffs. They do get a lot of gorgeous goals, but I’ve heard Wellwood’s name in front of the opposing net as often as anyone else’s, and that’s not a great thing!
Bernie’s doing about what I expected (20-20-40 season), but I’d love to see him start to bash for the blue paint – it’s what’s been missing.
