Top Prospect as voted by you....
So I was cruising around the world wide web taking a look at the various stats of Canucks prospects and I thought I would present the numbers and let the indelible minds of NM decide who are really the Canucks' top prospects.
In a couple of cases I left out NHL experience when the prospect has only played 1 or 2 games.
Please vote for your top 3 in order and I will tabulate those votes later on and let NM know who we have anointed as the top prospect in our systems.
*by the way Hockey Futures has the Canucks ranked 10th in the league in organizational prospects, thanks to the wonderful hockeydb.com for most of the stats
**one thing that jumped out at me was the relatively small statures of these top prospects

*Although, I don’t think Schneider will be Canucks property for much longer since Luey is locked up. Having said that, my alternate 3rd pick would be I (Rodin).
Poutine & Meatballs
Kevin Connauton has pretty impressive numbers as a D man. Hopefully he can keep that going. If Shirokov works on his 2 way play then he might be able to make a difference for the Canucks. I think Cory Schneider is way better than Raysoft just because of his size. Schneider should be the backup next year and get some NHL experience which may give him some trade value for the Canucks later.
I have to say so far I am a little surprised by the results. I don’t think personally I could include Hodgson in my top 3 right now since he hasn’t played hockey since training camp and it seems he is about to lose a whole year during his key developmental years. Jordan Schroeder and Rodin are getting no love and Yann Sauve is getting over looked as well. I figured the voting would be a bit more varied.

You could put it down to people putting down names they’re familiar with. Then again, that doesn’t explain Grabner’s sudden rise in stock. I guess he was making a positive impression before his injury.

After watching Grabner and Schneider play in the AHL playoffs last season my mind was made up a long time ago.

Hodgson
Has more talent than anyone else on this list. The question is whether or not he’ll be able to fulfill it. My thought is that he is 19 years old. Taking a long time to rest this up with little at stake doesn’t concern me that much. Heck, if he takes the entire year off and then goes to Manitoba for half a season, that’s okay with me.
Until there’s some suggestion this is career threatening, I’m not too concerned (yet).
I’m concerned with him missing time in his prime ‘developing’ years. Schremp had back issues and it slowed his progress considerably.
On the advice of orthopedic surgeon Tony Miniaci, Hodgson didn’t skate for a month and shut his junior season down. Miniaci put the centre on a program of aggressive physiotherapy and the youngster began practising with his Brampton Battalion junior club in Ontario in November. But Hodgson, who led the world junior tournament in scoring last year, had to excuse himself from this year’s squad as his back still wasn’t ready. Meehan said Hodgson had a cortisone injection before Christmas that has improved his condition. Hodgson is to confer again with Miniaci today or tomorrow. He is continuing physiotherapy and working out with the Ontario Hockey League’s Battalion. Meehan said surgery is still a last option, but as long as Hodgson’s condition keeps progressing it would be avoided. He said there is not timetable yet on when Hodgson might return to action.

In terms of those who can help the team in the most immediate future. Still think D needs some more time.

GO CANUCKS GO!
Not as far as I can tell, so I expect a full report on Ellington. As well, Patrick Coulombe’s rights are owned by the Canucks, but at 24 I don’t think he’s a prospect anymore. There probably other players on the team like that.
They have some great names on that team like Dirk Southern, Wes Goldie, and Chad Painchaud. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Painchaud just Hot Bread in french? Wow.

yes, Painchaud does mean Hot Bread.
i thought i heard last week that Ellington got called up to the Moose, probably to fill in for Oberg. now that Oberg’s been sent back down, i still haven’t heard anything about Ellington coming back to vic.

Can we get a few more people to recommend this post so that it stays on top of the fanpost section for a few weeks? Good stuff, Section.
Thanks. This is the kind of stuff you can come up with on a Sunday night when you are single….and don’t have to be at work on Monday until 11am.
