and..what about them both wearing different numbers then?
by Sean Zandberg on Sep 30, 2009 12:30 PM PDT up reply actions
22 and 33 look close enough when the play is moving so quickly. But a bright ‘A’ on the chest/shoulder area… this has bad news written all over it.
This sets a dangerous precedent. Now there is a distinguishing basis between the brothers. They always get the exact same stats, play the same amount of games, sign the exact same contracts, and look exactly the same. Now that one has an A and the other not, their going develop a sense of individuality and rebel. The whole system will crumble. I fear.

Should we give Hank and dank the same jersey number as well as the A so defenders don’t figure it out?

This is great. I’m guessing Hank is more out spoken than Danny boy. I don’t think this will ruin chemistry between the twins. Maybe it will build more competion between the twins. But regardless let’s not spoil this with brotherly jealousy.

I am fairly certain that this MUST have been discussed with both twins prior to announcing same. Perhaps they flipped a coin. Perhaps they arm wrestled for it. But I would be shocked if this leads to some sort of jealously between the two. I don’t think the organization is that shortsighted.
Though they DID just send Hodgson back to junior yesterday…
…kidding. Well, kidding about bringing that up again. Point still stands.

I understand the rationale, but I still might have gone for Bieksa…

Someone back me up, or slap me on the side of the head...
Does anyone else grate their teeth when they hear “Assistant Captain” rather than “Alternate Captain”? Someone tell me that I’ve been wrong all these years in insisting that there are no assistant captains in the NHL!

i know, i messed up. i had about 2 minutes before class started to post this. i’ll change it.

GO CANUCKS GO!
Must be either/or...or just assistant
…considering if that’s not the case, the Canucks.com story announcing this gets it wrong about 15 times…
and TSN I believe. I’ve read stories about it meaning either/or.

well, my original post had “assistant” in the title and “alternate” in the body…..FAIL.

GO CANUCKS GO!
Not really a fail. They both are the same thing.
So, Rob Blake gets the “C” in San Jose, while Boyle and Thornton get the “A’s”

Not exactly a definitive source...
but whatever other choice do I have?
“Teams may designate alternate captains, who are often referred to as ‘assistant captains’.”
I’m going to take this to mean that “assistant captain” is a colloquialism, that the correct term is “alternate captain”, and that I’m free to continue grating my teeth!

I hope you have good dental coverage, or else I’ll question your sanity.

Bah! You know AV talked to both of them beforehand. Danny’s fine.
by Sean Zandberg on Sep 30, 2009 5:07 PM PDT up reply actions
AV talking to both of them (which I’m sure he did) isn’t really the point. They are identical twins who, throughout their professional careers have had unconsciously similar scoring statistics. Eerily so. Danny doesn’t care I’m sure. But, in a situation where balance has been a big aspect re the both of them, I think balance should have prevailed on this occasion.

I have a feeling the team voted for the third A, with multiple rounds (Like the french system, I think) where only the top two voted for go onto the “final round” who were obviously both Dan and Henrik. And then since it’s a 23 man roster, they couldn’t get an equal number of votes and Henrik came out on top.
Did that make sense at all?
yep, that makes sense, although it’s usually management who makes the selections.

GO CANUCKS GO!
There was some talk during the Sharks debate about how traditionally it’s the players’ decision. I thought that was weird because at the NHL level I presumed that for quite awhile now it’s been the management’s decision.

here are some comments, as well as a few extra tidbits for the day before the season opening.

GO CANUCKS GO!
I don’t think it matters too much. I bet they did talk to both of them. Management has been good about making sure things like that are taken care of.
Regardless, I would have given it to Razor. Really piss Bettman off.
