Preseason Train Chugs Along; Canucks Vs. Flames Gameday
When: Saturday September 26th 6pm PST
Where: Pengrove Saddledome
TV: TSN2(HD), NHLN-US(HD)
Radio: Team 1040
Web stream: Flames.nhl.com claims to stream it live
Flames Blog: Matchsticks & Gasoline
In five days these two teams will meet up for real and kick the season off. But for now there's still some greenhorns fighting for jobs and old guys (not on LTIR!) still working out the summer rust.
Though it's subject to change, the Canucks should be icing the following guys:
Mason Raymond - Cody Hodgson - Michael Grabner
Darcy Hordichuk - Ryan Johnson - Rick Rypien
Tanner Glass - Mario Bliznak - Jannik Hansen
For Vancouver there are really three guys to watch. Shirokov gets the sweet spot on the first line while Hodgson and Grabner hope to find some preseason relevancy before the next round of cuts come around. I don't see Glass or Bliznak making the roster though each have had good preseasons.
The Flames have their own prospects looking to land some NHL employment, including old friend Jason Jaffray.
We'll drop more updates in as they become available.
2:32 PM ET Update: Hey remember that stuff about Jaffray from before? Forget it. Calgary is icing a pretty veteran line-up so Hodgson and company have their work cut out for them. Here are the lines:
David Moss - Olli Jokinen - Jarome Iginla
Nigel Dawes - Daymond Langkow - Rene Bourque
Curtis Glencross - Craig Conroy - Fredrik Sjostrom
Eric Nystrom - Dustin Boyd - Brandon Prust
Robyn Regehr - Jay Bouwmeester
Mark Giordano - Dion Phaneuf
Adam Pardy - Anton Stralman
3:52 EST Update: The Flames are not taking this game lightly and are looking to "set a tone."

i’m just going to stick with team1040 for this game and for tomorrows against edmonton. i have a lot of homework and studying to do for next week anyways, and the online video feeds are distracting.

i just had a math assignment due yesterday at 8:30 am.
i tried to work on it during the game on thursday night, but that didn’t go too well.
now this upcoming week:
wednesday: one assignment due, one midterm
friday: two more assignments and a lab report due (the lab is wednesday night), and another midterm.
i’d rather not have much of anything left to do during the season opener thursday night.

GO CANUCKS GO!
it’s only 3 months of classes (december is all exams), and when a class has 3 midterms, they get spread out evenly.

sweet.
i’ve actually looked into actuarial science myself. although it’s not at the top of the list, it’s among the things i can eventually do with my math.

Missy, I hope you’re not going to turn into a statzi, those who would suck the life out of the fine sport of hockey with their constant crunching of numbers.
Fuck Corsi.
I've seen enough to know that I've seen too much.
heh, sounds like my homework. I could probably help out if you’re really stuck with any of those but java (and for java you have the rest of the damn internet)

Oddly, I’m very eager to do other people’s homework, but when it comes to my own, procrastination is also my problem. If you get it done fast instead of posting here, you can probably catch the video feed of the third period.

Missy, I’m with you. I always start out intending to schoolwork during games, and then it falls apart pretty quickly. Though I have the NHL Centre Ice package, and I have to say that I work well when other games are on in the background (ditto for football, baseball, etc.)..

Fine. The Canucks are dressing SOB,Ripper and Hordi.
Go ahead and try to “set a tone” Flamers…we got your “set a tone” RIGHT HERE!

interesting fact
while i was looking on the flames official site looking for a feed, and i found another ticker counting down to the opener on thursday like the one we have. their’s, however, is for celebrating 30 years of being a franchise.

At least they're realistic.
There ain't no turning back when our train is off its track, and there's nothing we can do but watch it crash (watch it crash)

Jannik Hansen
I think he’s looking really impressive again tonight. Does he make the roster? And if so, where does he fit? 4th line with Johnson/Rypien and Hordi as our 13th forward?

Leafs overkill
Ugh, let’s not talk about the Leafs. I LIVE in Toronto, and I’m pretty sure 95% of Leafs fans couldn’t name any Canucks other than Luongo, Wellwood and maybe the Sedins. This comment section is escapism for me, dammit!

i will second Ferraro’s assessment of Hodgson

Canucks PK has been great tonight.
And for this being the Flamers #1 lineup…I am very happy with the Canucks tonight.
You can see who is the faster team…outshooting them too, even with less PP time.
vancitydan
Agreed vancity, a great performance for a largely second tier line-up. I think this speaks to our depth this year, which should serve us well if there are injuries or players falter. Depth is key – think of how seamlessly the Wings integrated guys like Abdelkader and Helm into their line-up in the pressure cooker of the Cup Finals.

Hardly noticed him on the ice.
So I checked his last 4 games…
They’ve given him 10-12 mins per game icetime.
And they say they’re giving him a chance to make the team?
They didn’t want him to make the team from the get go, Gillis wants to save the contract for another year and open up another roster spot, no way in hell they gave him a real chance to shine.
Anyone listening to Team 1040? Who are the 3 Stars? Lou has got to be in there! TSN2 went straight to Sports Centre.
yahoo! is stupid
they say:
1. kipper
2. luie
3. david moss
http://canuckpuckbunny.blogspot.com
GO CANUCKS GO!
although, looking at the box score, kipper had about 35 saves and luie had 24…..
http://canuckpuckbunny.blogspot.com
GO CANUCKS GO!
Yeah Kipper was good… but I thought Lou had more quality/clutch saves (eg last 5 seconds of the game). Does Yahoo just pull their stars from the stats, or from the actual in-game decision?

I'm out
It is pretty late here, and I have work to do. Look forward to doing more of this throughout the season, it was fun to share the game with passionate ’Nucks fans! :) Have a good night everyone!
anyone else notice that the helmet luongo has been using in the preseason has a “1” on the chin instead of a “C” ?
conspiracy?
wait a minute…did that mask ever have C on it in the first place? I thought only these ones did.

I’ll download and watch it tomorrow.
