Canucks-Hodgson/Sharks Game Thread
It seems to be all about Cody Hodgson tonight. All eyes will be on him as he faces continual pressure and now gets a spot on the top line and will get power play time. So just to add to that pressure, I will give a brief period-by-period analysis of CoHo's performance. Feel free to hang out and chime in.
Period 3 & OT & Shootout
Goals: 0
Assists: 0
PIM: 0
Assessment: Continual fail. The Canucks came back to win in the shootout. Hodgson was not one of the 3 Nuck players selected in the shootout. He didn't earn it. He was outshined by several players tonight: Grabner, Raymond, Hansen...Great game by Hansen and Raymond. It will be interesting to read the media's take on Hodgson's play tomorrow.
Period 2
Goals: 0
Assists: 0
PIM: 0
Assessment: Hodgson and the team are stinking up the joint tonight. There's no gel there or anywhere. Hodgson is playing with Kesler and Raymond. It isn't translating into anything.
Period 1
Goals: 0
Assists: 0
PIM: 0
Assessment: I think every other Canucks line outshined the top line in Period 1. Hodgson did miss a glorious chance with 1:00 left. Was that him coughing the puck up in his own zone as well? No chemistry with Burrows and Kesler yet.

Pretty slow game so far. Too bad Glass missed that pass. Still hoping Hodgson and Grabner make some plays tonight.
Burrows + Canucks = Stanley Cup!

Had a girlfriend in Kent…sort of like a cool Abbotsford without the smell of cowshit.
I agree…but I sure am enjoying this camp. So many compelling storylines. Be interesting to see how it all shakes out with AV and MG.

There is a distinct lack of sharpness being exhibited by almost every Canuck right now. Luckily the fans are helping them get going….oh wait…they aren’t even making any noise.

Jay Mohr is killing it right now. Having a very good first act. No clear cut laughs yet but certainly some comedic chances. He will need to start finishing.

Hodgson
Looks like he’s behind in his conditioning and timing, but also like he is playing with very little confidence, thinking too much instead of moving his feet and letting his very good hockey instincts take over. Has the ability, but needs a pep talk.
Am I a geek if I am watching a TV show and see an actress I recognize and then instantly realize it’s Captain Janeway from Star Trek Voyager and I am stoked about it?

…Those are the NHLers leading the way. Bernier and Burrows on the assists; Edler on the last goal; Raymond getting the first.
The captain made a couple big saves and everyone else decided to pull up their socks.

by Beantown Canuck on Sep 23, 2009 9:22 PM PDT up reply actions
True. But all I ever hear about from so called Canadians is how good the Russians are and how much more individual skill they have. How we won’t be able to compete with them. blah blah blah
by Section 312 on Sep 23, 2009 9:24 PM PDT up reply actions
I always thought the Swedes were part of the Top 2 as well. They have better overall talent than the Russians, IMO.
Swedes are strong in every position. Top to bottom of the lineup. Russia is weak on the back-end and in net, but they are tops when it comes to forwards.
by Beantown Canuck on Sep 23, 2009 9:28 PM PDT up reply actions
Sweden may be more rounded than Russia but the elite level skill of the Russians makes me think only one country has the players to stop them. No one else has Richards, Morrow, Doan type checking line players than can score too.

Is Phalson in the same league as Brad Richards or Shane Doan? Not in a million years.

by Beantown Canuck on Sep 23, 2009 9:34 PM PDT up reply actions
I meant Mike Richards and in my opinion Richards is but most might not agree with me. Plus there is Cory Perry as well. We have the best shut down checking type guys who can play offense as well. Plus the top end Getzlaf, Crosby, Iginla type guys.
by Section 312 on Sep 23, 2009 9:38 PM PDT up reply actions
I think the Russians are the second best team in the world. I just think Canada is the best. More well rounder players. Kovalchuk, Ovechkin, Malkin, Semin, Kovalev, etc etc the Russians have all kinds of talent.

Lidstrom-Ohlund-Lundqvist-Backstrom-Backstrom-Sedin-Sedin-Zetterberg-Alfredsson etc etc… Swedes are more rounded than the Russians.

I really don’t might a W-L-T point system because I feel that only 2 points should ever be doled out in a game.
I think you should get 3 for a win so that teams go for wins late in games.
