Hodgson To Receive First Line Duties Tomorrow?

The Province is rolling out lines for tomorrow night's preseason tilt against San Jose:

Alexandre Burrows-Ryan Kesler-Cody Hodgson

Darcy Hordichuk-Dave Scatchard-Jannik Hansen

Mason Raymond-Alex Bolduc-Matt Pope

Tanner Glass-Mario Bliznak-Steve Bernier

Michael Funk-Alexander Edler

Evan Oberg-Brad Lukowich

Yann Sauve-Kevin Bieksa

Roberto Luongo

Three of those forward lines are hysterically bad, even for the preseason. But look right there on top: Mr. Everything, the KesLORD and the Chosen One. It's sad we have to wait a day to see it.

Wow, those bottom three lines are a little scary. I’ll be impressed if the Nucks can pull this one out.

i would say

We are in for our first loss of the preseason. But stranger things have happened

by Temujin on Sep 22, 2009 1:34 PM PDT via mobile reply actions

Well there’s always the possibility of Luongo winning it for us. Had he be in net vs Calgary last night I’m confident we’d have won 3-1. I hope he outright stones Heatly.

As soon as I saw Dave Scatchard and Darcy Hordichuck on that second line, I knew something was up. This is your team once the flu passes around.

by thelastjohnny on Sep 22, 2009 1:38 PM PDT reply actions

Just the normal flu, not H1N1. When the swine hits town, that’s when Bolduc is on the first line.

When the swine hits town…

Avery plays for the Sharks now?

by casual on Sep 22, 2009 2:13 PM PDT up reply actions

Scatchard and Hordichuk on the same line?

Yikes. Too bad we didn’t sign Bertuzzi to push the vets as well…that would be a line of massive proportions.

After what seems to be a strong pre-season

(at least so far), Hodgson looks pretty solid. Do you guys think he cracks the roster this season?

by Lucid09 on Sep 22, 2009 1:55 PM PDT reply actions

Too early to tell; he’s only had twogames. Plus he’s only 19 years old.

I think Shirok is ahead of him anyway cuz Shirok was playing against men the last few years and Hodgson against boys. Shirok looks like a keeper, provided he continues to impress as he has been doing, but might nonetheless be the one sent down for a while before being called up later, simply cuz we have no perfect fit where we can place Hodgson.

A year in the AHL alongside Mike Keane would do him good, were it possible, but maybe he’ll manage to progress just as well by getting thrown in the deep end here; he seems to have good character. He doesn’t look out of his depth so far, IMHO, but he doesn’t look wholly comfortable and in control either.

But again, he’s only had all of two exhibition games this year. And, of course, who says we can;t take both Hodgson AND Shirok? Yeah, I know that’s two rookies in a cup-run year, but Shirok isn’t really a rookie in the traditional sense, is he?

by casual on Sep 22, 2009 2:21 PM PDT up reply actions

Hodgson

I honestly think he might be back to junior this year. As weird as it sounds, this team might not have room for him.

I think if he can prove healthy, Shirokov has already made the team, especially with the Demitra injury.

by Jevant on Sep 22, 2009 2:30 PM PDT up reply actions

Before preseason (and the emergence of Shirokov), I was thnking he was pretty much a lock. Now, I’m leaning toward 9 games with the boys and a return to junior.

It’s almost criminal if it happens, because I think a year in the AHL with Mr. Keane and the occasional callup would be so much more beneficial. But, alas…

by kesrows on Sep 22, 2009 3:43 PM PDT up reply actions

Hey, Yankee;
It’s Matt Pope, not Matt Hope.
Just thought I’d point that out.

by Dr. Static on Sep 22, 2009 2:22 PM PDT reply actions

Yeah, he’s got no hope… of making the team.

Ha…go tell the province too! Thanks, I’ll fix.

Has anyone else noticed how good some of the “no hopes” have been though? My fave is Labrie, he and Glass last night had several shifts where they dominated on the forecheck.

I know its preseason, but Bliznak, Bolduc,Glass, Labrie, Pope and even Desbiens have shown much.

Maybe its just seeing them for the first time, but it kind of turns that whole “the Canucks have a thin system after their top prospects” line that you read in some of the publications.

damn, this would have been fun to watch. i have an astronomy lab during the game tomorrow night, so the most i’ll be getting away with is the boxscore (and maybe coming on here). this will be the first game i don’t get to watch live this preseason.

Don’t worry Missy. Looking at that lineup, you’ll be seeing alot more stars than we will.

Still, think we’d have a really good shot at winning if we were playing the Leafs.

by kesrows on Sep 22, 2009 3:38 PM PDT up reply actions

Luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu is the most important star of them all. He’s our Polaris.

by Beantown Canuck on Sep 22, 2009 4:15 PM PDT up reply actions

interesting thing about Polaris, though:
the North Celestial Pole actually changes constantly, because the Earth wobbles, so the Pole goes around in a circle, doing the full loop over 26,000 years. It just happens that, right now, Polaris happens to be on the point of the circle where the NCP currently resides. In a few thousand years, the NCP will shift towards Vega.

just an interesting fact i learned last year in astronomy.

Missy?

Can you tell us the real poop on this whole 2012 thing?

Is their really some kind of Galactic Convergence thing, or is that all new age Nostradomus hoo-ey…?

Thanks for the info, I knew about the wobble thing, but now I hear some rather “excitable” folks tell me the whole thing goes kerflooey on 12/21/2012

That D looks a little bit of all right, though, doesn’t it? I haven’t been that impressed with Sauve so far, but Funk’s been all right and Oberg has me converted. I can live with the goalie, too.

by Thursday on Sep 22, 2009 5:20 PM PDT reply actions

Lets hope that Hodgson impresses

I would like to see him stick with the Canucks. He does have the talent but is still getting into shape following the back injury another year in the minors is not what he needs. Shirok has been good but i am not so sure he has made the team just yet. Hansen is the person that is really getting the short shift here he would be a lock on most teams at this point.

There’s an interview and AV’s comments on Hansen today.

Looks like he is 3-4th line or bust.

Does have to clear waivers…you know someone would take him.

AV’s gushing comments on Shirokov so far make it look like he has a better chance to stick.

by vancitydan on Sep 22, 2009 9:41 PM PDT reply actions

Shirok could still get caught in a numbers game and be sent to the Moose for as long as it takes Gillis to make a deal for someone like Hansen.

I’d rather see us get value for Hansen instead of giving him away even if it means sacrificing Shirok to the AHL for a few weeks. Well, my inner GM feels that way, anyway; my inner fan wants Shirok in the lineup starting now!

Hmm Scatch isn’t listed in the lineup on the Canucks site. I think I remembering hearing that he hurt his hand. Anyone else know if/why Scatch is scratched?

by SteveNux on Sep 23, 2009 4:55 PM PDT up reply actions

I think it’s because he stinks.

by Sean Zandberg on Sep 23, 2009 5:44 PM PDT up reply actions

Haha. I was just looking forward to seeing Scatchard and Hordichuck on the same line throwing their weight around and crushing bodies. The sharks have some pretty hefty players of their own so we should bring some size… or just speed around them.
