Orcas Swim the Shark Tank
A nice weekend game I hope everyone was able to watch, but for those who couldn't:
-The Sedins showed they're worth the money by combining for 7 points, even providing the two goals on the first two power plays.
-Shirokov proved once again that anyone can play with the Sedins and look good, grabbing two assists. That aside, he did look great and Tommy was so enamored he called him "The Pocket Russian Rocket."
-Scatchard scored a weak goal and made at least one really bad play, his chances aren't looking good.
-Speaking of chances, Baumgartner didn't look good, and Shorty and Tommy were saying Yann Suave looks like he's full of potential, but'll get sent back to junior to gain some confidence.
-The Canucks were outplayed in most of the first and outshot 22-14 in two periods, yet were at that point leading 5-0. Say what you will about Raycroft, but he looked especially sharp during the PK, while easily outperforming Thomas Greiss
-The third period was won by the Sharks, 2-1, as Marleau who couldn't seem to convert despite several good chances, did eventually get on the scoreboard with two assists.
-I didn't actually see the two Sharks goals, so could someone comment on Raycroft on those?
-I think the Sharks are around 0-13 on the PP in the preseason, and were 0-4 tonight, but keep in mind that their top offensive players, Thorton, Setagouchi, and Heatley didn't play tonight.
-Lots of fights as usual. Labrie looked good, Desbiens was beat pretty badly, and Burrows was sucker punched by Shelly with Scatchard jumping after that.
-Erhoff looked good with a goal and assist and sending the puck up to the forwards like he's being paid to.
That's about all I noticed. Nothing new was established, but it was an exciting game. I can't find an accurate boxscore, but unlike what canucks.com/yahoo/tsn have on theirs, neither Grabner nor Hodgson played. Those names are actually Parrish and Scatchard, respectively. Another game tomorrow, and another day closer to the season's start.

No, thats about it johnny. I would say your summation was great, just a little off on saying the Sharks had the 1st period (not only were they down 3-0 by the end of it, but after a good couple of minutes at the start for the Sharkies, I would say the Canucks won the rest of the period)
I thought Sauve looked really good this game. It seems that he and Oberg are both trying to say "hey, AV, see how well I can play the offensive defenseman role ".
Labrie is a beast, isn’t he? If there is a guy challenging for Hordi’s spot, its him.
As for the two goals, the first was a great pass into the slot by Marleau to McGinn I think it was, Razer couldn’t get a cross quick enough, but it was such a good pass I don’t think anyone outside of Loungo could have got it.
The second was a puck that pinballed in from the point, and bounced right to Hinote at the side of the net.
Pretty helpless feeling for a goalie on that one, but he “almost” got it.
So, Razer has looked good, but let in the only goals of the pre-season. I am just assuming here, but does Schneider get the whole game against the Oil tonight?
Cuz he just has to keep it below 2 and he draws ahead I think.
BTW-Yeah, Tommy is fun when he gets ebullient, isn’t he? Love the guy. Not sure if it’s all the way to “Pocket Russian Rocket” yet, but you cannot deny the chemistry the Twins seem to have with Shirok’ almost immediately.
Though he could probably do that with Sammy and Kes’ too…
Hmmmmmm…

Yeah, looking back it’s more of an overstatement that the Sharks had the first period. More like up until that first goal, but my memory’s been getting jumbled lately, so I’m not too sure.
And thanks for breaking down the two goals.

Uh… proving worth and preseason play should never be correlated to each other. Especially just moments into a 5 year deal.

It is premature yes. But didn’t you get a little bit giddy over it?

“The Sedins were showing they’re worth the money…”
Does that wording work better for you?

Nah, sorry man, you’ll have to be a little less presumptuous than that! haha

“The Sedins excelled against a preseason team full of minor league lifers as they try to earn a spot on either the first or second line.”

“The Sedins outplayed the Sharks 2nd line severely. "
Todd McClellan was using them as an example of what that line did NOT do for their team.
Thats always good.
That lineup had about half their NHLers in.
Apart from Blake we owned their D…and a couple of those guys were NHLers too (Pickle Boy had a bad game)
