That’s an interesting first line. But overall lots of muscle in there (especially with Glass, Bolduc and McIver slotted in). I wonder if Mike Brown will be out there for the Ducks.

Anyone else feel like Grabner is getting a bit of a raw deal? Shouldn’t a skill guy be playing with other skill guys? I know the coaches want to see that he can take care of his own end of the ice but surely you can see that even if he is playing with other talented offensive players? The guy isn’t now and nor will he ever be a 4th line type player. So play him as a top 6 forward and see if he can do it. Am I wrong?

no, but
I don’t think Grabner is necessarily on the “4th” line. Johnson-Hordichuck-Pope seems like the 4th, even though it’s not written that way.
Yeah that’s true. Maybe more of a third line. I guess it also depends who else they throw on that line. I guess I am just so used to this organization playing guys on lines that they aren’t suited for that I jumped to conclusions. We are notorious for taking talented guys and not giving them a chance to showcase their ability.

Unless those Sun writers are totally off, I gotta think they play Grabs some of the game with Kes and Sammy.
Cas’, not sure about you, but I don’t mind any time they put Shirok’ into the line up.
We are just like AV and crew. Having not seen him play, we love any opportunity that we get.
Plus, lets face it, he is pretty good. You can see his puck sense and the way he thinks the game by his play on the ice.
Unlike Grabner yet, with Shirok’, its like the puck finds him. Both his goals were those kind of goals.
I have always been a firm believer that its not just “luck” when the puck keeps finding a guy. Its thinking the game. Right now, I got to think that SS-65 is a little farther up the depth chart than MG-40, despite the wide disparity in their time in Vancouver.

It’s Wayne Gretzky’s famous quite: I don’t go where the puck is, I go where the puck is going to be. If Shirok has even a small touch of that, I would be happy.

You know, now that I think it over, the Canucks will be playing 3 nights in a row, and 4 of 5, so I guess it’s both good and inevitable that players will be skipping games. More likely we’ll see Shirok tomorrow nite instead.
Still lots of good subplots for tonite: Samuelsson as a Canuck, Grabner, the entire “3rd line” corps of Raymond, Wellwood and Bernier. Oh, and Cory Schneider, too.
I don’t want to make a fanshot/post out of this, nor do I want to venture into CDC, but has anyone else noticed that all four other Northwest division teams are up on TSN’s preseason power rankings, and that the Wild are the highest at 14? Food for thought, anyway.
they’ve already done us? i didn’t notice.
i’ll have to check that later. gotta go catch a bus right now.
GO CANUCKS GO!
The other teams are up the Oil, Flames, and Wild are all in the 14-18 range. The Canucks haven’t been revealed yet. Would have to assume we will be in the 8-10 range.

A little, quick googling and I find that Mason Raymond has worked out and has gained weight from 182 to 187 over the summer. If he’s been on the Bernier diet – “yum, yes I’d love another salad, thank you very much” – he probably lost a little fat, too, and replaced it with mass. Not that he had much room to give on that front, tho.
Anyway, can’t wait to see if he’s strong enough to turn the corner and drive the net this year. If he is, 20 goals should be well within his reach.
TSN Power ranking
I think this is the link http://www.tsn.ca/fantasy_news/feature/?fid=548 they are 6th ahead of Pitt and behind Chicago.

here is the correct link the Canucks are yet to be ranked http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/feature/?id=11926
Unlikely combatants? They’ve thrown a few in their day.

Bernier
is looking sharp so far.
I fcuking hate Corey Perry easily one of the dirtiest players in the league, good for Kes.
That insurance commercial cracks me up. The wife, not so much.

At the game
Observations:
- Kes kicked ass.
- Bolduc didn’t.
- who the heck is Ramsey? Not listed on program.
- Lu looks great!

quick question:
they just said that kes and bolduc are out of the game. does this mean they won’t be back at all?
GO CANUCKS GO!
Kes still playing. He’s flying.
Oberg looks huge, sammy tiny.
Welly holding on too long.
Grabber looks lost.
Who is Ramsey???

Wow…the Ducks playing tough, or trying to.
Canucks look to be hitting everything that moves…

i had an idea:
we should try to keep track of how many fights happen over the season. i think the numbers would be pretty interesting to know.
eg. with the 3 fights already tonight, and the 3 (i think it was 3, rypper fought twice and i seem to remember someone else fighting as well) from the islanders game, that’s already 6 fights in 1.5 games.
GO CANUCKS GO!
Regular season…fights vary. Maybe a 1.5 fights per game on average for example? Not sure. We need to find a website that counts fights. I’m sure there is a few out there.

wasn’t there one last year that had kesler holding a couple duck players added to it?
GO CANUCKS GO!
From what I’ve seen here, Grabby is Moose bound.
Rome is a player though. I like him.
by treved on Sep 17, 2009 8:36 PM PDT via mobile reply actions
You have to like a guy like Rome. 29 and after 10 years still trying to make it on an NHL roster. That takes guts.
speaking of old guys any news on fluery
ok i admit it I cried during rocky one!
He was greeted with chants and cheers tonight in Calgary. Not sure if he has any points. Looks like Jokinen is doing all of that!

the Fluery story
no goal no assist plus one and one 2 minute penalty in a 4 – 4 tie with the islanders
I didn’t see it, but I think it was one of those head down, open ice train wrecks.

kind’ve reminds me of the Stevens Lindros hit, reaching for the puck, but really a clean hit.
Wow! Bango! That was destruction at its finest

Nice win.
Players who impressed me:
-both goalies
-Raymond
-Rome
-all the vets were solid
Not so much:
-Grabner, seems like he still needs to learn “the game”
-Pope, not too bad but he made a couple of bad giveaways
good pics
I still like the bolduc move – excuse me Bernie allow me take this shit kicking for you – that showed some real character. Bernie himself was great early and got the ball rolling.
It was a good win for everyone but Grabs and Tanner Glass they did not do enough in this game to come close to getting a sniff with the big boys.
I don’t know there.
Grabner looked pretty good at the point on the PP. He did that last year with the Moose, and seems to have a good sense of where that pass should go.
Nice having all that speed back there if you get a bad bounce!
Glass looked like a player though. We are way too deep for him to make the team, but he did a few good things out there too!
Another Moose guy…
But for Grabner, I want to see more of the “dangerous scorer/Top 6 player” that Grabs is supposed to be.
Or we trade him for someone that can. You have to think that some other teams with holes look at the Canucks now and covet some of the youngin’.
Maybe Burkie needs another “top 6” guy.
Grabner could grow and actually be good in a few years with the Buds.
And we need to contact Burkie quick, before he pisses away all his top picks!

Smo…Sean has got Leaf in his blood…some genetic disability.
Thank God its not contagious.
Brian Burke says they were a playoff calibre team before this, and adding Kessel without giving up a player puts them “ahead of the game”.
Friggen Burke has a touch of the Blarney Stone eh? Could sell ice to Eskimos.
They’ll be "slightly " over .500 I think, in that 8-11 hole.
This deal is palatable if they make the playoffs.
If not…Yikes!
