"The one big memory I have is when I was four years old and going to my first Vancouver Canucks game,'' he said. "They were playing the Atlanta Flames and I remember sitting up in the nosebleeds and I knew then I wanted to be a hockey player.
"And I thank God for blessing me with the skill and the ability to achieve my goals of becoming an NHL hockey player."
Joe Sakic
Best of luck in your retirement, and thanks for kicking our ass all these years.

Hellova player, thank Christ he’s retired now.
Him, Foppa and Roy used to give me nightmares when they’d come to visit.
Hell, even the Bertuzzi incident might have gone a different way if the Avs weren’t kicking our ass that game, Sakic had a goal and three assists alone.
Orca Bay and the Griffins didn’t own the Nucks over the past 12 years, Burnaby Joe did.
One of the two
Canucks games I’ve seen live was against Colorado, and Vancouver got hammered 8-1 or 9-1 or some bloody thing in GM Place. The other was in Pac Col, and the ’Nucks got blown out in that one, too.
Sigh.
I’ve pretty much given up on going to games: can’t change the channel when it’s live.
Buy tix for a Nucks-Isles or Nucks-Yotes game?
The chances of seeing the Canucks light up some Tomato Can would be high.
And if they lose, plain and simple, you’re a bad luck charm!
I recall that 5-1 loss to Phoenix last year was pretty shitty. Remember SOB’s own goal? Classic Canucks crap game. Absolute classic. My point being that any game on any night can be stinker.

I have a terrific 4-1 record attending Canucks games live.

I have a perfect 1-0 record attending Trevor Linden nights.
I have a disappointing 0-1 record attending nights where Dan Cloutier lets in goals from center ice in the playoffs.

Oh boy…you were there for that? Talk about damaging mentally :)

Tell me about it. The only playoff game I’ve ever gone to.

Definitely. A hell of a player and it’s always awesome to see a guy who means so much to a franchise, a city and a fan base. A dying breed.
(and, as Zanstorm said, so many Canuck killings along the way…still a hell of a player. He’ll be missed)

Here’s a messed up stat or two:
Sakic’s last game in Vancouver was on April 1, 2008, when he picked up two assists in a 4-2 Colorado victory over the Canucks. Sakic seemed to always be at his best against Vancouver, having scored 31 goals and 97 points in 79 career games against the Canucks. The only team Sakic had more success against was the Calgary Flames, registering 40 goals and 102 points in 82 games.

Huh, maybe he grew up hating the Flames, haha
That was almost as tough to watch
as Linden’s retirement. It’s amazing to me that I’m so emotionally invested in a guy who has brought me so much frustration. But he also brought a lot of happiness.
Scores! Jooooe Sakic!
They should waive the minimum wait for entry into HHOF, imo.
No kidding on the HHOF part.
I respect that man, but I’m not glossy eyed over his retirement. Remember, his last historic moment was losing a battle to a snowblower. Safety First, Joe!

When the hell are you coming home?
Don’t you dare go buying a B&B or boat rental company near Tofino and stay down there. I’ll kill you!
Loving this vacation. Don’t wanna come home.
Yeah, I’m running a whorehouseboat in Tofino now and crab fishing on the side.

That looks like it should be the slogan on a tee shirt. The kind that a guy buys when he’s drunk and it seems hilarious, but then he sobers up and comes to his senses and realizes it is too raunchy to wear in public, but saves it for sentimental reasons anyway. :)
