On This Day In Canucks History: July 8

July 8, 1995 - Canucks reunite former Junior Hockey teammates Alexander Mogilny and Pavel Bure by acquiring Mogilny and a 5th round pick in exchange for Mike Peca, Mike Wilson and their 1st round pick (14th overall) at the 1995 NHL Entry Draft.
Ahh, the good ol' days. When the Canucks liked Russians...

Recorded Conversation between Pavel and Alex during the Lame Photo-Op:
(in Russian)
Pavel: You backcheck next game.
Alex: No, you.
Pavel: No, you.
Alex: No, you.
Pavel: You owe me a steak dinner from last week in LA.
Alex(sighing): Alright, one period and that’s it!
Pavel: You backcheck and Anna Kournikova is all yours!

If only they had a full season together in top form. If only. Goddamn Pavel’s knees.

Man they both dropped out before their time. It really is sad considering how incredible they both were before the injuries truly took their toll.

I seem to remember in ‘97-’98, Bure played 82 games, scored 51 goals, while Mogilny only played 51 games. They never seemed to be able to both be 100% at the same time, at least for any great length of time.
I've seen enough to know that I've seen too much.
Wasn’t there primadonna issues with those 2 being on the same team? I seem to remember something about one of them being unhappy

I don’t think they ever really gelled like some people hoped they would. They both scored 50, just not at the same time. Too much of a good thing, I guess.

Still a little choked
That we lost Peca for Mogilny. Sure, Pavel was happier, but Peca was what we needed!
I’d love to see Peca get his name on the Cup this year, what a warrior,
even if he just rides the press box for the Pens/Bruins/Hawks or..(gulp) us
next time the playoffs roll around.
I was ecstatic to see some of these names get on the Cup over the past few years:
Todd Marchant
Brad May
Matt Cooke(the Cooker!)
Sergei Gonchar
Rod Brind’Amour
Doug Weight
Rob Neidermeyer
Teemu Selanne
Great stuff.
