...I felt I didn't have a great year and I can do better and was happy with the one-year deal. I wanted to be in Vancouver and apparently they wanted me back, so we got everything ironed out. It gives me an opportunity to come in and show that I have more to give and if I can do that, the long-term deal will take care of itself.
SOB in Das Province. You think he has more to prove or will it be more of the same?

If he is given more minutes I think he’ll do fine. If he doesn’t get that playing time, I expect bitching from him. It is another contract year for him after all.
If he takes a god damn hooking call two minutes into the first game of the year, I’m going to need a new animal to start punting.

and I think he loosens up the room
Absolutely.
@Beantown: Edler is going to get Ohlund minutes. OB gets Edler minutes.
Well I don’t like that either. Someone else needs to eat up about 20 min a game. Someone legit top 4 D.

I’ll throw OB a bone on this one. I say he can handle top 4. Just my opinion

So Edler, Bieksa and Salo are not point men?
by Sean Zandberg on Jul 7, 2009 10:26 PM PDT up reply actions
Salo is when intact; Bieksa has other jobs to do (in addition to some point work); and Edler isn’t going to play 30 minutes a game. In fact, if anyone plays 30 minutes on this team, something’s gone horribly, horribly wrong.
I think you underestimate the abilities of Edler and Bieksa. They are going to be relied upon heavily to carry the workload

Certainly not!
But how many players does it take to be on the power play? And penalty killing? Ideally, four defensemen for each, and that’s if you aren’t line-matching, something Vigneault does a whole lot of. If Bieksa is going to be leaned on as a shut-down guy, a power play point man, a penalty killer AND an enforcer, then he’s not going to last the year, never mind another five.
Edler is a solid defenseman, too; but again, how much (and in which roles) are you going to use him?
And if Vigneault starts using forwards on the point again, I’m going to steal his car keys go he can’t get to practices anymore.
