I haven’t seen much of Raycroft, but is he so bad that he wouldn’t suffice as a low-cost backup?
Looking at his career stats, it looks like he had one decent season with Boston, then really stunk it up with TO and Colorado (both teams which had brutal seasons those years). Was the losing records due to Raycrofts poor play, or was Raycrofts poor play due to him playing with a crap team in front of him?

Short answer: Yes.

Remember we used to get into arguments about him? That Leafs team in front of Raycroft was ass. So was Colorado’s. Neither team had decent team D. This will be different for Raycroft in Van. If I’m wrong, you can gloat away and I’ll never say a good thing about Raycroft again.

Raycroft’s first year in Toronto the Leafs gave up the 7th fewest shots in the league. He is a terrible goalie.
Vancouver gave up the 10th fewest shots against last year but is there hope that they’ll concede fewer this year? Based on his .892Sv% that’s 3.15 goals against per game. Last year the Canucks only score 2.96.

Ah right! That was how the damned argument went. Then I went on about the quality of those shots allowed by the Leafs and you said “fuck off” or something like that. haha
Hey man, when McCabe and Kaberle blundered it was treacherous. Those stats don’t tell the whole damned story! I watched those Leafs games. It would be great to see how many of those shots /goals against were 2 or 3 on 1’s. Then you guys bagged on the poor bastard and his confidence went the way of Carey Price. Asshole Leafs fans……
In all seriousness, my opinion since then is about right in the middle of our original argument.

Only answer needed: yes.
I am dearly hoping that Raycroft signed because he’s Hell-bent-for-leather to prove he’s NHL-worthy.
If you only learn one thing about Andrew Raycroft it is that he doesn’t give a shit.
Both Avalanche and Leafs fans joked about him being a stoner because he could not care less. When the Leafs missed the playoffs in his first year he was happy because he got a shootout-aided 37 wins.

Thank god he doesn’t give a shit. If you’re going to suck and also care about sucking, well then that would be just terribly sad. Let’s keep this Springer episode in net as straight forward as possible.

Perhaps the Nucks signed Andruw Raycroft, successful minor league goalie,
and not the corpse of Andrew Raycroft, who secretly died after winning the Calder Trophy in ’03 and has been played by so-so character actor(and Hockey fan) Tim Robbins in disguise for the past few years. Obviously.
ps-If Mirtle makes any more of a stink over this, I’m hitting him in the nuts with the Masterton Trophy, which Raycroft WILL TOTALLY WIN THIS YEAR*.
pss-Two words for you, PPP, if that is your real name: Greg Adams.
Go cry in Burke’s lap now.
*this may not hapen.
It's supposed to be pps.
Here’s one for you: Nathan Lafayette.
You might not cry about that one but you’ll be shedding tears if anything depends on Andrew Raycroft.

Sorry, I meant psp:
“Raycroft! Keep this bench warm, we’re depending on you!”
Nathan Lafayette hit the post in the 3rd period of a Game 7 SCF that the Canucks lost.
How many posts did Wendel Clark hit in a Game 7 SCF?
Engarde!
Is that the it’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved reply?
You’re definitely not depending on Raycroft right now. Luongo’s been very healthy except for last season. Now, if that repeats itself…

Then we call up Schneider. Raycroft can be useful as a placeholder.
On the other hand, what better way to tell an impending free agent (Luongo) how much you need him?
Tom Benjamin had a great post on that scenario. It makes sense but still risky.
Anyway, it’s just a hypothetical until Luongo’s groin snaps.

From the looks of it you guys will be back in the big dance in the future,
Burke has the right idea with the Komi and Beauchemin deals.
Agreed on Raycroft/Luongo.
Any situation in which Luongo’s down and the Nucks are likely toast unless Schneider has some
‘Cam Ward in ’06’ fairydust in him. And may that be the last time I use the term ‘fairydust’
unless Glenn Anderson becomes topical again.
See? I told you they had dirt on us! There he goes with Lafayette. Called it :)
