One That Got Away? Jaffray Signs With Flames
Somehow you just knew this sort of thing was coming: Jason Jaffray, not satisfied waiting for Vigneault and team to call upon him, has signed a deal with the Flames.
The 28 year old Jaffray was never drafted and didn't sign his first NHL contract until two years ago. At the time, Jaffray recorded an AHL career-high 81 points in 77 games, leading the Manitoba Moose in scoring and tied a franchise record for most goals in one game with four against the Chicago Wolves. He only appeared in 33 games with Vancouver, registering four goals and six assists over the span of two seasons. Most recently, he was back on the Moose helping them in their run towards the Calder Cup, notching a hat trick in game two of the Finals.
Facing the prospect of losing Hodgson, Schneider and Grabner to Vancouver, and already having lost Krog who left for Atlanta earlier in the week, the Moose are going to look pretty different next fall. As for Jaffray, I always thought he deserved more of a shot but thems the breaks. I wish him the best of luck (meaning I'd like him to leave Calgary immediately because if he establishes himself as permanent fixture at the NHL level with them I'll be kitten-punting furious).

If your going to punt a kitten across the room, at least make certain the kitten cheers
for the Leafs or Red Wings first.
Kitten Coyotes fan? Give it a beer.
I am reckless with my kitten punting. Calgary getting one of our kids falls firmly under the kitten punting umbrella as defined…you know, by the Gods.

This is not so good.
Although at 28, you have to think that if he hasn’t been able to manage anything but a cup of coffee in the bigs, he’s probably just a career AHLer.
Still, to lose him to a division rival has the makings of an epic facepalm in six to eight months time.
Right, it may mean nothing but he has some promise and just needs a shot long than ten games. Something in the back of my mind tells me the Flames may give him that shot.

I’ll tell you what that thing in the back of your head is called:
The flames have like zero dollars available to spend after the Bouw signing and have to replace the loss of Cammaleri and Bertuzzi as forwards. So they promise Jaffray a spot if he takes close to league minimum. Bada-bing.

Right. Nothing wrong with that. I think that’s what Jaffray needs if he has a future. As one of the promising Moose players, he’s got a great shot.

Yup, and the facepalming will ensue. What a tragedy to piss away Jaffray. I always was a fan of his.

Boondoggle?
(crowd grumbles)
Clusterfuck?
(crowd grumbles)
Genocide?
(crowd grumbles loudly, someone throws a tomato)
…..Epic Fail?
(crowd looks at each other, claps politely)
Epic Fail it is then. Jaffray to the Flames could be an Epic Fail for Vancouver.
Or he could be season away from leading the Norwegian 2nd Division Hockey League in plus-minus. On a line with Pat White. Sigh.
Good For Him
He would have never have gotten a fair shot in Van. Hopefully it all works out for him in Calgary.
I predict he’ll be a dissapointing third liner in Calgary who will play about 50 games and get about 15 points.

If he plays 50 games I say he gets 25 points at least.
