Chicago's Got Trouble

...Right here in River City.

Dale Tallon had apparently decided to leave the filing of the Hawk's qualifying offers to their RFAs to the team mascot. Because SOMEbody forgot that they're not allowed to mail the offers in, but must fax or courier them. This means, according to the rules, that none of the qualifying offers made count. Which means that Chicago, with an awful lot of money promised out this year, will suddenly has a slew of free agents to deal with.

Including...

Update: The NHLPA has filed a grievance and is pushing for all the Chicago players to be declared free agents, and precedence would seem to agree. Chicago has resigned Brouwer, Eager, Fraser and Johnson, so it seems like even they acknowledge which way the verdict is going to go.

Kris Versteeg, Cam Barker, Ben Eager, Colin Fraser, Aaron Johnson and Troy Brouwer.

I had jokingly mentioned offering Versteeg a sheet this year as revenge for their series win over the 'Nucks. Seems less funny now, doesn't it?

If the league tries to laugh it off, you can expect the NHLPA to launch a protest, with 29 teams lending moral and spiritual support between bouts of licking saliva off their chops.
