Maple Leafs Interested In Markus Naslund
So says a report from Hockeyexpressen. Naslund did admit that he has talked to Brian Burke but has told him that he will take his time to decide.
Burke sure is loyal to his some of his former players isn't he?

They are aware he retired right

Didn’t he have a year left on his contract with the Rangers? Is this allowed?

I thought this whole thing was about Naslund being a scout, not actually unretiring to play for the Leafs. At least that’s what last week’s report was.
'Nucks Misconduct - Housing Swedish Millionaires Since 2000.
Him denying it means nothing. Why the hell would he leave NY where no one knows him and a guaranteed check on at least a cup contending team to return to a rebuilding effort under the harsh spotlight again? Makes no sense.
(so, that said, he’ll sign by Monday)

Yeah, your logic is sound, but you never know. I think he’ll stay retired. Just a hunch

So what happens if he signs with TOR? Are the Rags still free of the cap hit? It would seem like a pretty blatant manipulation of the salary cap and CBA if that were allowed.
That’s true that it would look shady. But I think that would be the case, anyone correct me if I’m wrong.

I thought that if he retired that he had to sit out an entire season before returning.
Pension Plan Puppets: A Toronto Maple Leafs blog and a group therapy session.
I think it would be equitable and fair for him to unretire if the rule was constructed in such a fashion:
1. NYR would have to agree to it and would have his rights (and free to transfer him to the Leafs as they are with any other player, obviously).
2. His existing contract will be reinstated, OR, a new contract can be made that has the same cap hit for 09/10 as under the old contract AND his salary for 09/10 cannot be larger than it had been under the old contract (e.g. the Rangers can demand he take a pay cut if he wants to return, as consideration for agreeing to allow him to return).
Don’t know what the actual rule is, but that’s what a reasonable rule could/should look like.
I’ve been studying for the Bar exam for the last month, by the way. Does it show? Shoot me.
