Around SBN: Clippers Need To Realize That Spurs Are The Anti-Grizzlies

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun mentioned that the Canucks have been rumored to be "kicking the tires" on 2 significant players: Marian Hossa, who may go to UFA because the Wings cannot afford him, and perhaps trading for Jack Johnson, who's due for a raise as an RFA.
These are just rumors. Thoughts? Are these guys on your wishlist?
Of course, there will also be rumblings about Scott Niedermayer or Jay Bouwmeester potentially signing here as well. We'll see what Mike Gillis does. These rumors are going to intensify like mad over the next few weeks.

I never trust rumors. They’re just good brain candy occasionally. These names make sense because we know Gillis is pursuing a puck-moving defenceman, almost had Jaybo at the deadline, and needs a Sundin replacement.

personally im not a big fan of bowmeester either. hes been playing in a defensive system when i see him play for someone other then the panthers then ill make my judgement but i think hes going to get overpaid by a large margin

I'd take him over Gaborik any day.

Bring me Stanley. Alive if possible, dead... just as good.

I don’t understand this comment. He doesn’t want to work for his cup shot, as in he just floats around on the ice and does nothing?

I’d take Hossa on my team any day.

I think he’s referring to him jumping ship. Hossa is playing pretty inspired hockey I suppose. But no goals in his last 6 games?

by Sean Zandberg on Jun 6, 2009 10:42 PM PDT up reply actions

I know what he was referring to and it’s an ignorant statement to make. He doesn’t owe the Penguins anything after playing only 32 games for them as a rental player? Only a Penguins fan would say something like that.

He’d been in the league 10 years and was a UFA, he can do whatever he wants. How do you think he felt when he was shipped to the Thrashers and had to stick it out there for 2.5 years? He didn’t stopping working and put up 248 points in 222 games.

Jack Johnson:

(ears perk up)

I do believe we’ve found our new Mattias, ladies and gentlemen.

who can be yours for a mere $5 million

by Sean Zandberg on Jun 6, 2009 11:29 AM PDT reply actions

I’d pay $4 million alone for his name.
(i’m thinking Jack Johnson the boxer, not Jack Johnson the spawn of Lucifer singer-songwriter)
Otherwise cross your fingers for Evan Oberg being the second coming of Rafalski. Tightly.

all those guys are absurdly expensive. i’m intensely worried about 2010-11, because barring a miracle the cap’s dropping. we have to get the twins, mitchell, bob, kes and so on locked up this summer or next; i don’t understand how we propose to add j-bo’s 6-7m, hossa’s 7m, niedermeyer’s 5m (and presumably his shitty brother’s 1m) and so on.

adding any of those guys would mean losing some of our current guys, and the grass is not always greener.

by passive_voice on Jun 8, 2009 3:05 PM PDT reply actions

Good point. But you’d think Niedermayer would only sign for 1 year though
