Wings-Penguins Game 4 Open Thread

Datsyuk_chokeslam_final_mediumDon't even ask about the Photoshop. I just found a pic of Datsyuk in that vulnerable position in the Province today and....yeah, went with a non- x-rated version. How many of you are watching the game tonight? If you want to drop by and voice your joy, hate, or whatever, come on down.

By the way, the next Moose game is on Saturday night. That series shifts to Hershey for 3 straight games. Nuts.

haha, no, the original pic was of Datsyuk stretching at practice.

OH GEEZ, a lousy PP goal for the Pens. 1-0

by Sean Zandberg on Jun 4, 2009 5:19 PM PDT reply actions

Why are the Wings unravelling like this? 3-2 Pens

it starts and ends with goaltending.

Are you placing blame on Osgood?

You’re not enjoying the Letang train tooting around tonight? Go Pens!

by Yankee Canuck on Jun 4, 2009 6:58 PM PDT reply actions

No I fucking hate it. Damn Wings tired or what? It’s just breakdown after breakdown and now the Pens have all the momentum.

by Sean Zandberg on Jun 4, 2009 7:00 PM PDT reply actions

These guys are still comparing the Pens to the 1984 Oilers.

by Sean Zandberg on Jun 4, 2009 7:00 PM PDT reply actions

It's only Game 4, but

the Wings have never been beaten by more than one goal in the playoffs. The Pens did that last time and look to do it again today.

In the battle of the strong, victory goes to the brave.

The failure to score on PPs could be to blame

In the battle of the strong, victory goes to the brave.

by javaball on Jun 4, 2009 7:08 PM PDT reply actions

Absolutely. They could go u 3-1 and Staal bags a shorthanded goal. That stuck a fork into the Wings.

by Sean Zandberg on Jun 4, 2009 7:14 PM PDT up reply actions

I know you never wanto to conced a playoffs game,

but if I were Babcock, I would play the 3rd and 4th line more and give Z and Lidstrom some rest and regroup for Game 5.

In the battle of the strong, victory goes to the brave.

In the battle of the strong, victory goes to the brave.

by javaball on Jun 4, 2009 7:20 PM PDT up reply actions

You may be right. At the same time, Lidstrom is now approaching 20:00 played. Zetterberg is at 16:45. Why are they tired? Maybe they just have zero momentum

by Sean Zandberg on Jun 4, 2009 7:24 PM PDT up reply actions

I didn’t see the whole game, so I can’t tell for sure. I just thought that since the chances of Detroit coming back when down in the 3rd is slim, why not get ready for the next game early?

In the battle of the strong, victory goes to the brave.

Pen's first one by Malkin

In the battle of the strong, victory goes to the brave.

by javaball on Jun 4, 2009 7:41 PM PDT up reply actions

The Pens were firing from all over. The one shot went wide and behind the net, Osgood looked the wrong way and Malkin stuffed it in.

by Sean Zandberg on Jun 4, 2009 7:43 PM PDT reply actions

So I didn’t watch tonight (since I killed Versus on the cable package). Is tomorrow going to be more ref blaming or did the Pens overpower/outchance them tonight?

'Nucks Misconduct - Housing Swedish Millionaires Since 2000.

by Yankee Canuck on Jun 4, 2009 7:47 PM PDT reply actions

Actually, the penalties favored the Wings, but they couldn’t capitalize and Staal bagged a shorty.
No, the refs are still letting them play and I must say, I’m really happy about that.

by Sean Zandberg on Jun 4, 2009 7:55 PM PDT up reply actions

My chalice is now halfway filled with the tears of Wings fans and I’m getting thirsty.

by Sneps-ish on Jun 4, 2009 7:47 PM PDT reply actions

Haha! No love for the Red Machine huh?

by Sean Zandberg on Jun 4, 2009 7:56 PM PDT up reply actions

I, for one, still root for the Wings

It looks like the Pens have figured out how to break through Wings’ defense with their speed and aggressiveness, and also defend against Wing’s PP. The Wings need to come up with the counter-punch.

In the battle of the strong, victory goes to the brave.

Cheering for the Wings-Not since ’97.

Deep Thoughts on Game 5:

-Crosby is still due for a big game and Maltby should likely quit beaking at him.
Sid’s jersey is still covered in Philly and Caps blood after undue ‘motivation’ from said teams/fans.

-Hossa + Wings= A-Rod + Yankees (Too Much of a Good Thing on a Powerhouse Team?)
Discuss amoungst yourselves. He strikes me as someone who’s going to score a ‘too little, too late’ goal in this series ala Lindros vs. Wings Game 4 in ’97.

-I hope the above statement doesn’t come back to bite me in the ass.

-Not counting out Osgood yet, but he’s giving off an odd, familiar smell right now.

-Can Team Canada adopt Malkin?

-Can the Canucks adopt Max Talbot?

-Michel Therrien’s dog just got beat to death.

-I miss Datsyuk. The enemy, yes, but what an enemy!

I said it before, it looks like the home team is going to win every game.
But if Pitts wins on Saturday that’s all she wrote I think.

Any of you guys watch the NHL Network? When the Pens win, Larry Murphy and Bob Errey squee like little girls. Pathetic.

they both won cups with the pens. leave bob errey alone!

by Sean Zandberg on Jun 4, 2009 11:19 PM PDT up reply actions

Babcock sounds angry during the press conference.

blaming the PP for the loss, while not pinpointing the exact problem. Not a good sign for the Wings. I had a sneaking suspicion that he might have driven the Wings too hard. He conceded that he shouldn’t have had the Wings practice before the game.

In the battle of the strong, victory goes to the brave.

by javaball on Jun 4, 2009 8:24 PM PDT reply actions

Yeah, the PP was terrible. They just couldn’t get quality chances through on Fleury.
Another thing, I really don’t think Zetterberg could have THAT BAD of a game again. 2 costly turnovers.
Now it seems like the Wings really need Datsyuk back in there to zap some life into them

by Sean Zandberg on Jun 4, 2009 8:28 PM PDT up reply actions

This Game 4 has an eerily similiar feel to the Vancouver vs Chicago series.

The Red Wings made mistakes and couldn’t seize the chance to grab a 3-1 series lead, and with that, they also lost momentum and perhaps confidence. How do you recover from a game where you couldn’t score with a 4-min PP but gave up a shorthanded goal instead?

In the battle of the strong, victory goes to the brave.

by javaball on Jun 4, 2009 8:45 PM PDT reply actions

never mind that there was some 5-3 time in that pp. detroit got run out of the building and if they dont figure out how to stop malkin soon, the cup goes to the might guins

the first thing i do once the pens take the cup is come over here and rag on zan cuz he hates my boys oooo so much. personally i think this is the pens to loose now. they have all the mo and the ice continues to open up for them
