Holy, I go on holidays, and you pay for it because you live on the East coast heh? Just got into the Lower Mainland now (drove all night), raced to the computer to see….
well shit. So now we wait, and once again I still feel optimistic

Eh, it’s ok. I enjoy this time of year, really I do. And I don’t sleep as it is. Tomorrow will be even worse.

And Hank told Hockeyexpressen that the Sedins will entertain other teams’ offers after the deadline before deciding. OK, maybe I’m not so optimistic….god damn insanity!
No there’s already conflicting reports. That came out before Barry spoke to CKNW. Either could be correct, but I think the chain of events was (1) Henrik said they’d entertain offers and (2) Gillis left one final offer before leaving. The Province is suggesting this could go on through tomorrow as they (the Sedins) see what offers come to them, tell Gillis in good faith and see if the Canucks up the ante at the last second. Who knows.
I’m more annoyed we’re playing the “what’s the Swedish website say?” game again. Sundin ALL of last summer was enough.

I gotta say, this is very douchey of the Sedins. Maybe it’s a JP Barry thing because I’ve never known the twins to be douchey before. It shows they care more about fattening their paycheck to the nth degree than having a hockey club that’s competitive. They need to just say yes or no tonight. Making the Canucks wait until after July 1st, and maybe even forcing them to up their ante, is totally dickish and the uncertainty prevents the Canucks from being able to do anything else they would like to or need to do on July 1st. They have to decide: do they want the payday, in which case they should let the Canucks know that they are walking, or do they want to stick with Canucks, in which case they should accept this last offer before free agency begins.

If you could make close to 20-30% more on the open market, after years of above average service, wouldn’t you ask for it too? I don’t think they are being douchey at all (J.P. Barry is, that’s his job). Everything said about the Sedins are they aren’t always looking for the higher dollar…I think this has more to do with years and the cap hit (which is why Gillis dragged along Gillman to Sweden so he could explain their outlook). If nothing, I think this last minute trip shows a lot about what the Sedins means to the GM. If they run for the money, I think this has a bit of Barry in it too since it seems out of character. However, that said, this could have been completed any time over the past year. To come down to now is annoying but completely fair from the Sedins standpoint.

Find me a job...
…like “hockey star” and the comparison’s valid. There is no salary cap preventing other businesses from hiring you (or anyone else); no upper (or lower) limit on the number of employees a company can have; no farm teams for employees to train on, either.
That being said, everything the Sedins have done is perfectly reasonable, but I’m still pissed at the idea that “negotiations have been going on for a year”, because they haven’t: it’s been piecemeal at best, and stopped all together until after the playoff were over.
if i would be GM
I would have given them an 8 year contract like this:
8 8 8 8 8 4 1 1 – averaged to 5.75 and probably they won;t play after 35, but they can be 3rd line because is not the speed that makes them good, is the skills and those doesn;t go away with age. Having them in the 3rd line 6 years from now won’t hurt either.
Due to the Sedin’s drama, we were diverted from the real Canucks problem: defenders, they need at least 2 … and one fo them very good.
True, they need a lot more than the Sedins. Replacing Ohlund and (in my mind) replacing Salo or SOB is key too. But I’m willing to accept a worse defense for a good offense honestly. But at this rate, if the Sedins bolt, I honestly have no answer for what Gillis’s priorities become.
