Naslund Officially Retires
"I would like to sincerely thank Glen Sather and the New York Rangers for giving me the opportunity this past season in New York," said Naslund in a statement. "I would also like to thank the Vancouver Canucks and all of their fans for their support over the 11-plus seasons I was a part of their organization, as well as to the Pittsburgh Penguins where I began my NHL career."
So that's it, officially. Naslund saves the Rangers an extra million bucks by retiring rather than being bought out.
Feel free to share some more Naslund stories here. Maybe post some links or pics of Nazzy if you got them.
I'm sure we'll reminisce more when his #19 is retired in GM Place.

I got one..
Love how he drove to the net and Cooke cleaned up the garbage in Game 7 vs the Lames. Awesome moment.
Actually Naslund saves the Ranger more than a million bucks
They would have to pay him $2 million to buy him out, or pay him $3 million for him to play next season. That’s only talking about money. Talking about cap hit, if he decided to play next season, the Rangers would have taken a $4 million cap hit. If the Rangers decided to buy him out, the Rangers would have taken a $2 million cap hit in 2009/10 and a $1 million cap hit in 2010/11. (The calculations are a bit involved but trust me about the buyout cap hit numbers). So he has saved them a lot.
Stay classy ...
Mr. Naslund.
Looking forward to him having his jersey retired. He was awesome.
A Toronto sports blog, where we unequivocally and unapologetically support the home team, and Mats Sundin, the GREATEST TORONTO MAPLE LEAF EVER...
PLAYOFFS!!!!1
Sean – You are hating all this gushing over Naslund…aren’t ya?
He was a main reason for coming back to the Canucks after the ‘dark years.’
I’m not going to say what I’m thinking. I’ll keep it to myself for now.

My one and only visit to GM Place and I got to see he and Linden play…

You know, I just may have to head down to an area rink again. The last time I was there, they had a Blue/Red/White whale sweater with Naslund’s name and number on it. Yeah…in Guangzhou of all places. At the time, I didn’t have the $$$ to purchase. I’ll bet money its still there…
ok, NOW the WCE is dead
But hey it was fun.

Well if Demitra is out..we may as well get Naslund now…haha
Imagine him and Sundin on line 2… I bet it would work.
Sorry to rain on the Nazzy parade, but...
I can think of another Swede with better career numbers, a light in a time of franchise darkness…. Thomas Gradin. That guy was awesome heading down the wing with the spin moves.
What about guys like Tiger Williams, or Harold Snepts. Didn’t they mean a lot to the Canucks back in their day? Can’t see retiring Nazzy’s number if you haven’t retired Snepts, or for heck’s sake, what about Kirk Mclean?
Can’t see retiring Nazzy’s number, when those other numbers are not retired. Even Tony Tanti put up some impressive numbers during his tenure with the Canucks.
Nazzy could have retired a Canuck, it was his choice to play one more year in New York. Can’t feel too sorry for Nazzy in that regard.
Good luck back in Sweden and thanks for the memories. It was a good run, while it lasted…
Well I think your hesitation is shared, but Gradin didn’t shatter Canucks records though.
I like how you bring up Snepsts. He didn’t put up the numbers but hot damn he was a force on the blueline.
