Kiss Barbie Goodbye?
As I mentioned in the previous post, it's highly unlikely that Jason Labarbera is going to be re-signed this summer. Labarbera believes that he can play a lot more minutes as a goalie on another team, as he won't get much in Vancouver riding shotgun to Luongo.
In his own words:
“I love it here and I like being around the guys and stuff, but I know I’m not going to play so it’s one of those things where I’m just going to have to sit back and think about what’s important, I guess,” LaBarbera said.
“It’s not easy playing just once a month. I’ve never really been a backup my whole life. As far as seeing what’s out there, I don’t know who needs goalies and who else will be available. “But one thing I’ve learned is that you can never predict what’s going to happen.”
Whatever happens Barbie, I appreciate some of the glorious moments you provided Canucks fans this year in Luongo's absence, namely:
More comments from Labarbera here.
To be honest, I don't know where Barbie will end up if he isn't re-signed here. He's not a #1 goalie, but he may just have made a case for himself to be a decent backup somewhere.

I can live with either him or Sanford, frankly. Both are good enough on the ice, and good in the room, and that’s what’s most important in a back up.

You bet. I just think Barbie would cost more.

I think that Barbie best fits a platooning system. Something like a Craig Anderson, where he plays about 1/3 to 1/2 of the season.

The Oilers will make a play for him, he’s cheap, reliable and pretty decent. Although Calgary might also go for him. Crap, I don’t wanna see him in the NW at all unless he’s sportin a Van jersey.

If Labarbera had been the starter this past year,
where would the Canucks have ended up in the rankings?

10th in the West perhaps. Barbie could play so well, but the team (a lot of the time) either hung him out to dry or just didn’t play well enough in front of him
