Coming into the Blues-Canucks first round playoff series, we told our readers at St. Louis Game Time that we believed this would be a difficult, hard-fought series. And while you can argue that a sweep isn't that competitive, it sured seemed like the four games for the most part lived up to that billing.
I must admit, I have a new respect for the Canucks, their style of play and their fans. You have a much more physical team than I expected. The Blues dished out a lot of punishment and the Canucks kept coming. And the Blues were on the receiving end the same kind of physical play from Vancouver. I imagine players on both squads were feeling the toil of four intense games this morning.
So that's that. The Canucks were a better team, seized the opportunities at the right time and saw an incredible level of play from Roberto Luongo, arguably one of the best goaltenders in the league. They deserve the rest before their next series.
Also congratulations to the fine fellows who run Nucks Misconduct and all the fans who frequent this still young Web site. It takes awhile to build a community feeling and this site already has it since starting in February. Nucks Misconduct was the first site we invaded during a commenter field trip. I'm glad to see our relationship has continued to grow. I can't wait to see our interaction next year when Vancouver and St. Louis meet again in the regular season.
During this first round, there were plays and players I didn't really appreciate. But like the players on the ice after the game, that's all in the past. Consider this my handshake to everyone here at Nucks Misconduct. Congratulations. Go get 'em next round.
