With 9th place St. Louis losing in regulation to Chicago tonight, if the Blues were to win every one of their last games, and the Canucks were to lose every one of theirs, the teams would end up tied in the standings with 93 points. Since the season series is tied 2-2 between the teams, that leaves goal differential as the final tiebreaker. Vancouver currently stands at +27, while St. Louis stands at -7.
Therefore, in order to pass us, not only would the Blues have to win all their games while we lose all of ours (in regulation, too), but the combination of the goal differential changes resulting from our losses and their wins has to have a net swing +34 in St. Louis's favour. In only a short amount of games (6 for us and 5 for them).
And even if for some implausible reason that happens, the Canucks would still make the playoffs if either Anaheim or Nashville loses just one more game in regulation.
Therefore, I think it's safe to say, we are for all intents and purposes in. Praise the KesLord!
