From Coach's Corner on Saturday night: "I'm going to tell you about this guy: He's got a free ride. He runs at guys, does this stuff," Cherry said. "I am predicting somebody's going to get him. And somebody's going to get him good. There's somebody out there - some big defenceman is going to be sitting in the weeds. As he cuts across centre ice, somebody's going to cut him in half."
Cherry was extra-ornery in this installment of CC. That's when he's the most entertaining! I can't say I disagree with Cherry on all fronts. I don't mind Ovechkin's showmanship when he scores. But not every player likes having a goal against rubbed in their face like that. It's true, there is someone out there who is going to catch OV with his head down one day and he is going to get it. That is fine by me as well.
OV isn't the first person that reacts so flamboyantly after scoring. But he does do it so damned often. Hey, I don't mind it, like I said. If I was playing against him I would hate it. And I would try take him out if he cut in the middle in my zone. Damned rights I would. The thing is, Ovechkin is very shifty. He'd be tough to catch with an open ice killer hit.
Bruce Boudreau loves the Don, but disagreed with him. You can read more about that here.
