Team Canada: B Team Edition
Now that we know the players who made Team Canada that will actually compete at the 2010 Olympics, what about some line combinations and players who could give them a run for their money right here at home?
FORWARDS:
Martin St. Louis - Brad Richards - Steven Stamkos
Simon Gagne - Stephen Weiss - Nathan Horton
Shane Doan - Vincent Lecavalier - Mike Fisher
Jeff Carter - Jordan Staal - Mike Cammalleri
That doesn't even include the injured Jason Spezza (or Derek Roy, or Patrick Sharp, or Travis Zajac, or Dustin Penner or a number of other solid choices).
DEFENCEMEN:
Dion Phaneuf - Robyn Regher
Stephane Robidas - Brian Campbell
Doesn't include Marc-Andre Bergeron, Ed Jovanovski, Braydon Coburn or more.
GOALTENDERS:
The thinnest spot, but it still doesn't include the other 2 goalies selected for the Team Canada summer camp in Cam Ward and Steve Mason.

I love Burr but on his own I don’t think he’s better than any of the players listed and would hardly make the honorable mentions included.

Yeah but a 30 goal scorer (fingers crossed) who can also play shut down role and agitate. His stock is rising. Soon that contract he signed will look like a steal.

He doesn’t score 25-30 goals if he isn’t with the Sedins so I don’t think you can give him that label. 15-20 goal guy is more conservative.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the guy but all those other guys are more “legit” IMO.

Yeah I was just thinking about roles and how pieces fit. Like if Bergeron gets on the A team because he is a right handed face off guy then maybe there is a place on the B team for an elite penalty killer/agitator with some finish? I mean play him with someone like Richards or Weiss and he is getting lots of good set ups like he gets with the Sedins.
