Roberto Luongo Named NHL's 3rd Star Of The Week

In the week of December 21-27 Roberto Luongo and the Canucks beat up on Nashville, Edmonton and Calgary, scoring 13 goals and only allowing 3 in the process. Roberto stopped 73 shots out of 76. His stats over those 3 games, as Canucks.com points out, was a stellar 1.00 GAA and a .961 save percentage. Luongo has been solid, but so has the Canucks team in front of him. Are these holidays happy or what?

Here are 3 Luongo saves over the last  3 games (thank you NHL.com):

1. The point-blank glove save on Mark Giordano. Beauty!

2. Lou kicks his left leg out to stop a point blast by Lubomir Visnovsky.

3. Jason Arnott tries a one-timer....eh..not happening.

Jaroslav Halak was the first star and Patrick Kane was the second star.

The first time he lets in a cheapie or an unlucky goal some wag will call Team 1040 and say that the “bum” has to go.

But yeah, Bobby Lou deserves it. He has been great at making the timely save these days. It would be nice to see the boys get him a shutout or two more, but no fan should be worrying about goaltending when the #1 guy is in…

The earliest use of the word with the spelling we recognize today is found in "L'Acadie: or Seven Years' Exploration in British America" by James Edward Alexander, published in 1849:

We also met a lusty fellow in a forest road with a keg of whisky slung round him who called to us 'Come boys and have some grog, I'm what you call a canuck"

I kind of feel sorry for Racroft. He doesn’t even get to play in back-to-backs

Never feel bad for a guy who sits on the bench, watches Canucks games, and gets paid $500,000 for it! ;)

Louie and the team seem to be rolling along just fine now. Phoenix is gonna be a good test. I want them to return to the steamrolling 2nd half express of recent years.

I’m looking forward to the Coyotes too, to see if they’re the real deal this year.

I’m happy for Lou, he needed the headline what with everything Brodeur was doing lately.

FWIW

I hope Brodeur is the starting goalie for team Canada.

Luongo gets 2 weeks to rest, and stew about the (rightly or not) perceived slight.

Sorta like how I’m thrilled Sammy didn’t make the team (Edler to a lesser extent). Angry Son of Sam sounds like productive Son of Sam to me.
