Love it Sean…puts in there in B+W?
The Bernier one looks serious though!? Funny how he went from preseason darling to same old same old pretty quick.
He does have 3 dirty goals. I’m willing to give him a little more rope, as long as he doesn’t hang himself with it.
vancitydan
I think Bernie is great, Continue to believe he has great up side and love the way pressures the puck and works his ass off.
Cheap shot by Ladd
Unlike Willie’s hit on Toews—I can’t believe he’s still out of action—Ladd’s hit on the Montreal player tonight was a blatant cheap shot. All elbow. He’ll be suspended for at least 5 games, methinks.
Still talking about Willies hit. It was a beauty but even Joel Quenville stated that it was clean so i do not get the ongoing controversy?
Hopefully Toews is ok but you try to fly through center ice with your head down and hmmm …… that’s hockey.
Hopefully Toews is ok but you try to fly through center ice with your head down…
I gotta disagree with that … a bit.
The hit was clean, but I don’t think you can say that it was Toews’ fault. He had his head up, looked left, then looked right for split sec in order to receive the pass. That’s when Mitchell came out of the 5th dimension – aka the penalty box – and nailed him. At the time that Toews looked left there was no Canuck who could possibly have gotten to him that quick.
So, to my mind, the mistake was not Toews’, it was Brouwer’s, cuz it was Brouwer – with a perfect line of site to both Toews and to the penalty box – who passed it to Toews in such a vulnerable position.
Wow…missed that one…though it sounds like I’ll have an opportunity to watch the replay.
Was watching this instead…my personal fave was #5 of course, but thye are all good.

Murph’ just interviewed Burrows, but he didn’t give it away…“just a little banged up”…Yeah.
Did you catch that though Sean…if Burr’ can’t go, its 23 mil in salary out…
Ouch
vancitydan
I see this was discussed earlier today. Ah well. I’m out of it today.

Its cool Sean…don’t be too hard on yourself. Mix another Capt. and Coke.
Just watching the Leafs…down 2-1 with about 6 minutes to go in the 3rd.
They lead the league in after whistle scrums though…
vancitydan
Capt and Coke are the reason for me being out of it today :)

This just in: Alain Vigneault and Mike Gillis bumped into each other on the elevator today, and as a result both are now listed as “game-time decisions.”
It’s that kind of year….

i was 75 metres away from the torch pass at uvic at 5:20.

GO CANUCKS GO!
and then, on the way back to the house, i found out that the torch was supposed to come by soon, so i stuck around. a half hour later, though, we find out that they had rerouted because of a protest that had formed a couple blocks further along the route.

Oops!
Thought the game thread was a little quiet after Bernier scored…. turns out I was in the game preview! On an unrelated note, the game preview MAY contain a Nostradamus-esque prediction of Bernier’s goal.
Yeah
I was busy hypothesizing about Raycroft’s potential use of recreational drugs and reading about people about reliving their teenage hockey glory. My bad.

May I suggest a nugget of finest Indochina Opium?
Perhaps investing in the Steam-driven car?
I got it: Dirgible Race!
just too much going wrong with them right now. Hiller isn’t himself plus their D is sucky. Sounds like us in our first few games of the season.

Oh yeah. Pronger’s presence is more valuable than peep think. That’s why I think the Flyers are going to the Finals this year.

Here's the game plan
We got our 2 goals, now we sit back and let Andrew “1.01 GAA” Raycroft do his thing.
Missy can correct me if I get my stats/math wrong, but I believe that this GAA suggests that Rayzer allows one goal 99/100 games and 2 goals 1/100 games.
Thanks for the validation guys! I’m actually generalizing slightly, as GAA is calculated per 60 minutes. So I guess 1.01 GAA means that he will let in 101 goals for every 100 60-minute games played. Ehh, not bad!

I miss Danny
How good will it be to have Henrik’s better half back in the line-up? The offense lacks considerably without him.
it’s true. Hank is beginning to slow it seems.

No question the presence of Dan lends a game changing quality to the team.

good thing his return inches closer. Wasn’t he supposed to get the cast off today?

I just noticed that the SOB is in the game. So they’re playing 7 D, and Rome is the 8th playing forward?
I thought Schneids is playing at forward too?
by nucksandpucks on Oct 30, 2009 7:42 PM PDT up reply actions
I could’ve sworn they just had Schneider out with Rypien and Bliznak. Maybe he was just pinching? Or AV is relishing in effing with our heads, and his lines, even more than usual?
by nucksandpucks on Oct 30, 2009 7:46 PM PDT up reply actions
Phew, looked like they were going to tie it up.
(goes back to listening to D2: The Mighty Ducks" on audiotape)
Is that the one where Bombay breaks out the Flying V, or the one with the big kid and his SHOT?

by nucksandpucks on Oct 30, 2009 7:49 PM PDT up reply actions
Nope Sean..Schneider is playing too at forward. Just at the point on the PP.
Hordi is out and both Rome and Schneider are up front.
SOB took Matty’s spot in the defense.
vancitydan
Shit! Sorry nucksandpucks.
I was just checking out the boxscore and doing the math and it wasn’t adding up! :)

i wonder if this is a Canucks record for most d-men playing
by Sean Zandberg on Oct 30, 2009 7:56 PM PDT up reply actions
Just noticed that Gaborik didn’t play in his return to Minnesota. I wonder what odds you would have gotten in Vegas for "Marian Gaborik will be injured and miss a game before the Rangers play in Minnesota on October 30th? Probably even odds.
I would’ve thrown $100 down on that bet
by nucksandpucks on Oct 30, 2009 7:48 PM PDT up reply actions
Man…the second time seeing that…the ref could have blown it dead.
Greasy for the Ducks..Duck meat is a little greasy anyhow…nice Grabner…score buddy!
vancitydan
Lets hope someone tunes up Noka whatever the fuck his name is -alinen.
On the HD replay, that was a dirty gutless play, put your stick hard into the knee, down they go.
Only reason its “ok” this time is Edler is OK
vancitydan
Oooh, HD. How is life at the Ritz, Mr Hoighty Toity? :)

I think he just lost a spare part there
by Sean Zandberg on Oct 30, 2009 8:27 PM PDT up reply actions
Given that this is a back to back scenario, and the Ducks are going to keep pressuring after 4 days off: I’d say we should score on the PP here.
I concur
Copy the coaching staff and 1st PP unit in on the memo.

I can’t see why he would have been. But I’m not sure

i’ve gotta think some announcers have these lines ready all summer or something, and are just itching to use them.

I wonder if it being the second game in two nights had anything to do with a completely different team coming out in the second period.
Either way that was pretty brutal.
i’ll be honest, i’ve been paying barely any attention to the game. i’ve been looking all over to see if there’s any videos of the olympic flame coming to uvic, so i can see if i got in a video :P
http://canuckpuckbunny.blogspot.com
GO CANUCKS GO!
well, i didn’t get to see any television coverage, so i’m looking for it.
here’s a pic i took though…….

longest journey? i don’t know, didn’t the flame for the beijing olympics go the whole way around the world?
http://canuckpuckbunny.blogspot.com
GO CANUCKS GO!
The premier said this is the longest journey in history and the furthest north it will ever have been
by Sean Zandberg on Oct 30, 2009 8:52 PM PDT up reply actions
Canada’s pretty big I hear. I think it’s the longest journey in a single country.
And it really does look like a joint when it’s aflame.
by thelastjohnny on Oct 30, 2009 8:53 PM PDT up reply actions
I think it is pretty obvious though, for whatever reason, the refs hate Alex Burrows. NOt sure what he said to one of them sometime, but I wish they’d get over it. He got pitchforked there. Any other Canuck, I am guessing that is a call.
Hmmm…maybe this will be like that Hallowe’en game last year…
We won that, right?
vancitydan
Burr and Kes probably found out the name of the refs’ wives and worked this information into some heckles.
by nucksandpucks on Oct 30, 2009 8:41 PM PDT up reply actions
At this point maybe Schneider could steal the job for next game if he stones the Ducks this period.
by Sean Zandberg on Oct 30, 2009 8:58 PM PDT up reply actions
THIS JUST IN
It is in fact MATHIEU Schneider in net, not Cory. He has become the oldest player to play forward, defense and goaltender in one game.

Nice!
Mine are in Officepools. Need the points
by Sean Zandberg on Oct 30, 2009 9:06 PM PDT up reply actions
So is this game an example of why we can’t just trade chances with a competent team while we’re missing so many players?
I dunno. It was just sloppy all around. Team played like they just wanna go home.
by Sean Zandberg on Oct 30, 2009 9:24 PM PDT up reply actions
yeah…had they capitalized on more PP chances they could have buried them early

Brutal game
On the upside, I had time to write a new post during the 2nd and 3rd. Coming up momentarily.
AV
blames this loss on the PP???
Uh 7 goals against? Hello?
Defense was brutal, but if you’re blaming the PP, maybe giving Tanner Glass more PP time than Salo, and constantly putting a forward on the blueline despite being down so many forwards and having a pile of good shooting dmen would be your first clue.
Not to mention Rome leading all “forwards” in icetime???
Anybody still need convincing that AV has the first foggy notion when it comes to offense?
