Canucks / Flames Recap

633913229513668630-success_medium

Second blowout and late comeback in Calgary. Second time Luongo has been pulled (10 goals, five periods, 42 shots in two games in Calgary alone). Second time Raycroft has looked better than Luongo in relief. The billionth time lazy penalites killed any chance of momentum. Rome, Hordichuk and Wellwood all....sucked. And Sportsnet credited an assist on Rypien’s goal to Mats Sundin.

Excuse me, I'm going to go fly a balloon in Colorado.

Actually, his +/- was pretty good tonite, better than most of the team.

Its simple…play 60 minutes.

That, and no refs born in Alberta are allowed to do these games. Not to make it just about that, but there were some really BAD calls tonight. The one on Henrik at the start was a phantom call. Before the even up calls at the end, it was 6 to 2 for penalties…maybe 3 or 4 of those were good calls.

The two on Burr’ were both a joke. Iginla dropped his stick when Burr checked it ( you are still allowed to do that right? I guess not)…and he barely touched Kipper to kill all hope at the end…when it was probably too much too late.

This one pissed me off more than the opener. Flames were the better team.

But they had some help…

The one on Henrik I thought was legit. He or Daniel pull that crap all the time. Very lazy and it cost them tonight.

That was an embarassment. Straight up. Pretty rare that the flames actually deserve a win against the nucks, but they did tonight. I’m not jumping off the bandwagon yet, but i’m pissed off. I don’t give a shit if you had 230 days off in a row…you’re played millions of dollars to be pros, not look like a jr. team or toronto maple leafs. Tonight was a professional bed shitting by a team that just didn’t give a crap.

Of course, next game we’ll win 3-0,and on Monday 5-2, so it’s all ok.

that game was a joke. every canuck looked bad but especially bieksa. that shorthanded goal made me want to break my tv. and i really don’t get why the team can’t come out hard in the first. ever. what does it take to get these guys pumped up for a game that they’ll actually skate hard and get physical in the first period? everyone is floating around and getting run over in their own end.

btw, nice pep talk alain, you really lit a fire under the 4th line. i guess after they all got in a fight they figured their night was over and it was okay to make prust/boyd/mcgratten look like simmer/taylor/dionne.

ok so i need to ask the question about the style of play. AV is known for a defensive trap game yet gillis went out and got offensive minded defence men . now dont get me wrong i really like erhoff and the idea is great. But the fucking execution is woeful. the entire team looks confused and pushes forward at breakneck speed whether there is an opportunity or not. the best teams dont just push as quickly forward as they can and then blindly hope for the best. so my big question is should they change the style of play or get a coach who can coach that style of play because i don’t think av can.

It was a typical Vancouver after a layoff game. Thank God , according to the schedule, we won’t see it again anytime soon.

On a positive note, The Irish Heather is a pretty cool bar!

by kesrows on Oct 17, 2009 1:39 AM PDT up reply actions

It's probably

AV’s idea of generating offense, which he is clueless at.

At least Kesler is honest

From the Province:

“Once again, we didn’t play close to 60 minutes tonight,” said centre Ryan Kesler. "We haven’t played 40 minutes this season and we’re lucky to be 2-4. It’s inexcusable. We’ve got to start grinding it out and playing with a little edge.

“We have a good lineup and a skillful lineup and it’s like we played too defensive in the first 40 minutes. We almost played scared. We can’t be doing that. We have to press and go on the offence.”

Second time Luongo has been pulled (10 goals, five periods, 42 shots in two games in Calgary alone).

What happened to the Loungo cheerleader? I was on him early this year but I thought he was ok tonight. Unfortunately this team it not built to compete with an “ok” tender. The problem is that Lou has been so awful early this year that the team does not know how to play in front of him.

Normally the D clears our and lets Lou handle the shooter knowing that 99 percent of the time he has the shot. Not so this year. I think the team was thinking that early in the game but with two shots ringing off the post early they knew he was not stopping the puck just getting lucky. Loungo was average tonight and this was one of his better nights this year.

I would start Ray tonight. At least Ray is known quantity. Lou is not Lou – I dont think anyone has clue what is up.

Razor defantly looked better…. Lou not so much… He looked like he wan’t even trying on a few of those. This is only the begining of the season, but if it any indication of what is to come, it’s going to be a long one. Not all the blame can be put on one guy though. It looked at times as if the D didn’t even bother to show up! The late game rally was interesting, just too little too late.

last night was pretty damn bad.
seriously, i stopped really paying attention after it was 3-0, although i did leave the tv on. then, when thet scored again to make it 4-0, i heard the goal horn and, thinking the nucks have scored, i thought “YES!” to myself. i then looked over and realized “oh wait, that’s calgary. fuck!”

Brutal game for our defense. Luongo made some big saves very early in the game but was given no help.

With the absence of offensive minded players like Sedin, Salo, and Demitra the team has to button down and play a strong defensive game.

It is concerning how many of these “40 minute games” we’ve seen to start the season. The team lacked chemistry last night, they were having trouble even connecting a pass let alone generating scoring chances.

Thank god they don’t have too much time to dwell on this one. I expect a much hungrier team against the Wild tonight.
