Thursday's Moose Droppings

Some random Moose news for your Thursday afternoon.
1. The Moose held on for a 5-4 shootout win last night over Abbotsford despite blowing a three goal lead.Guillaume Desbiens scored the gamewinner in OT while Cory Schneider stopped four of the five shooters he faced. With Grabner up in the bigs, their top line is now Desbiens, Marco Rosa and Sergei Shirokov who combined for three of Manitoba’s four goals in regulation. With a goal and two assists last night, Shirokov now has seven points in four games and is tied with Rosa for the team scoring lead. The Moose open a six-game road trip Friday night in Cleveland.
2. The Moose now lead the North Division by three points with a 4-2 record.
3. Looking to jumpstart his NHL career, former-Canuck Matt Pettinger has signed a 25-game tryout deal with the Moose:
"It was frustrating, July 1 came and we sat around and waited for something and nothing really presented itself," said Pettinger, who has been skating with the Victoria Salmon Kings of the ECHL for the past two weeks. "We just felt this was the best option, to get out and play games. It's a good situation for both. I can help out the team and it gives myself exposure to try and find an NHL job."

Good to hear Shirokov is doing well offensively, I’m sure he’ll get another shot with the Canucks while Daniel is out.
Pettinger potentially back in a Canucks uniform? Interesting. I’m surprised he didn’t get an offer anywhere in the league, he’s a decent player.
No Pettinger can’t play for the Canucks. He signed an AHL contract.

Right, he’s on a try-out contract so basically he’s showcasing his skills for 25 games in hopes someone signs him.
