Salo Gone for 4-6 Weeks
Right MCL sprain, supposedly out 4-6 weeks. My guess is it's more like 6-8.
Let's hope Schneider hurries up and gets better.

It’s to the point with him that I honestly wonder if it would make sense to only play him 80% of the games. Maybe that would help keep him healthy.
Its to the point with me, that I would rather see him not on this team.
I understand there is not much control over it, but, when is enough, enough?
I feel sorry for him, but at the same time as a fan, Im sick and tired of this routine with this guy.

Well on the bright side,
Sedin-blank-Hansen
Shneids-Salo
All we need is a competent centre and we’ve got the best starting lineup in the league for the injury squad.

Put Demitra at center; he’s better there than on the wing, anyway. So you get:
Sedin-Demitra-Hansen
Shneids-Salo
Yikes, that is a good set of skaters, isn’t it?
Demitra
I read a report that says Demitra is not doing well in his recovery and will now need more time.
http://pfhll.hockey.cbssports.com/players/player/news/19445
bq. News: The Province reports that Canucks RW Pavol Demitra’s recovery from offseason shoulder surgery is not going well. “It’s not getting better,” said Demitra. “They’re going to decide what’s next for me and I’ll see the doctor on Tuesday. There’s a lot of pain in the shoulder.”
Lameness.
Demitra has probably played his last game as a Canuck; cap problem mostly solved. This explains why Gillis has been working the LTIR as hard as he has; he musta known all along that Demitra being out for the full year was a possibility, so he hedged his bets in the meantime till he could be certain.
Now we really need one of Shirok or Hansen or Grabner to step up and help to fill the void. Ditto for the entire 3rd line. I really don’t think we’ll see Demitra again this year.
And, of course, trading Demitra is now out of the question. We’re gonna dance with the ones we brung.
If Demo is really out for the whole season, and with Daniel out for a month, Salo out for a month, and Schneids out for a month (give or take some games)… don’t we have a lot of cap room opened up?

We’d have to run the numbers to see if we’re still over the cap a little without Demo but with all the others. Anyone done this?
Bah...I don't fully understand the whole thing, but Capgeek says this:

Or try this. That seems to leave us with over $6 million.

You know when I made the 2009-10 drinking social, I thought Salo would have lasted a bit longer then that. But with him, Demo and Schneds all out, well, grab a drink folks.

I think I had Salo lasting 10 games. I fail.

Lets not forget, for all the well deserved comments about Sami’s glass nature, that the team wins way more games with him in the line up than out.
I like this Rome kid though. I think he’ll be OK until Schneider is healthy.
Unlike in years past, MG has given himself options.
Hell, call up Evan Oberg…he looked good. Maybe MacIver.
Luko would get snapped up, wouldn’t he?
vancitydan
Luko probably would yes. (I hate it!)
Aaron Rome? Oh hell yes!

They just signed Bergeron, so they’re slightly less desperate. But they are in trouble.

Dan, you are absolutely right about the team winning more with Salo in the lineup. But that just serves to highlight why we need to get rid of this guy. We are better with him in the lineup. But he can hardly stay healthy long enough to be in the lineup. So if we could replace him with someone who could stay healthy…then we would be a better team. We are better with him in the lineup because he is a solid D man and it allows everyone else to play a role they are used to. But that doesn’t mean we couldn’t find a D man similar to Salo, talent wise, but that could stay healthy. That is what we need.
I watched the opening game of the season with a bunch of Leaf fans (I live in Toronto) and when they asked me about our defensive pairings I actually forgot about Salo entirely.
At this point I basically just see him as a pleasant bonus. I don’t really expect him to be in the lineup the way I would a regular member of the team, but when he is it’s kind of like finding spare change in your couch.
Bring me Stanley. Alive if possible, dead... just as good.

I suppose that’s one positive way of looking at it. Good on ya for saying that.
